[ONLINE CLASS and FREE TRIAL AVAILABLE!] I'm Jack, currently completing a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Melbourne. I graduated in 2018 (95.65 ATAR) and can offer help in various Humanities subjects, with 1.5 years VCE tutoring experience in English, Literature, Legal Studies, and Business Management.
I firmly believe in the importance of critical thinking and intuitive understanding, as opposed to the 'rote learning' methods that schools often default to. Throughout high school, I was never the most diligent student, but consistently received marks that were well above my own expectations. I had been unintentionally practising some of the most efficient evidence-based study techniques, incorporating Active Recall, Spaced Repetition, and the Feynman Technique to truly UNDERSTAND the concepts that I learnt. I didn't know this at the time, but discovering this plethora of study techniques in 2019 greatly elevated my ability to cultivate genuine knowledge, confidence, and interest in what I study. Since then, I've come to many of my own conclusions and techniques throughout teaching different students, in order to further streamline the core principles of writing and learning.
In our lessons, I aim to facilitate an environment to most efficiently benefit each student, to boost their actual understandings before moving on from a given topic. We have no 'deadlines', we have no 'grades' here; only a safe space to learn - to experiment - so that you can take the best parts and apply it to your own exams.
Lesson types include:
>> One-on-one lessons: most suitable for students who want extra feedback to target their specific weaknesses and reinforce their strengths, or high-performers who want to push that extra mile.
>> Small group lessons: great for students who love learning with others (of course, I'll make sure we don't get 'too' distracted), and perhaps need less personalised content, seeking slightly more general assistance. This is perfect for those whose main need is to get deeper understandings on topics/content covered by school, to get more practice essays reviewed and commented on, etc. And let's be honest, group sessions cost less as well (~$35 per person, 2-4 per class). If you have a friend in your subject and both want to improve, this is the one.
I understand that the current situation has affected many parents and students, and have been offering a variety of private online classes for the past year. With our dedicated server full of shared online resources, discussions and 'virtual classroom' areas, students can easily replicate and even extend the effectiveness of traditional tutoring with this setup. Most importantly, everyone can continue to learn and interact from the comfort and safety of their own home!
If this all sounds good to you, please don't hesitate to contact me! Drop a message or request a call, and we can quickly arrange a consultation session within the week, completely free of charge. Regardless of whether you continue with me, I hope you have a nice day, and don't be too hard on yourself!
