About

Hi! My name is Michelle and I'm a first year dental student at JCU, offering tutoring for both lower school and upper school students(ie ATAR students). Over the course of my tutoring experience, I have had the privilege of working with children across various age groups with different learning abilities, from Year 1 to Year 10. Having recently completed ATAR with a predicted ATAR score of 98+, the lower and upper-school curriculum is still fresh in my mind, enabling me to provide valuable insights and assistance to lower-school and ATAR students based on my own firsthand experiences and common pitfalls that I’ve witnessed other students go through . Furthermore being a recent graduate, I myself still have access to past papers, resources, worksheets, PowerPoints and notes that I used both in lower school and upper-school to maintain high grades, which I’m more than happy to share with my students. ----------------------------------------- MY TUTORING PHILOSOPHY My tutoring approach revolves around four essential steps: Understanding, Memorisation, Practice, and Time Management. 1. Understanding: - I prioritise ensuring that students have a thorough understanding of the underlying basic concepts before moving forward. - Employing the Feynman Technique, I encourage students to explain concepts in simple terms, reinforcing their comprehension and knowledge they’ve learnt in previous years to solidify their understanding of complex concepts. 2. Memorisation: - Utilising techniques like spaced repetition, I help students systematically reinforce their memory of key facts and information with weekly quick questions to jog their memory. - Memory aids, mnemonics, and interactive learning methods are used to enhance recall. 3. Practice: - I emphasise the importance of regular and varied practice to reinforce learning by regularly assigning and marking homework outside of tutoring hours according to the standards upheld by common exam markers, so students are aware of how their answers in short answer, extended or even calculations should be written to obtain full marks - Tailoring exercises to suit individual learning styles, I incorporate problem-solving, practical applications, and interactive activities to engage students. - With past papers, books and worksheets I have more than enough resources and questions on hand for them to test their knowledge with and homework that gives them a better understanding of what may be asked in assessments and also extend their knowledge beyond what's expected 4.Time Management: - One of the biggest struggles many students experience is time management, especially in exams where they simply don't have enough time to complete the paper! -Equipping students with effective time management skills is crucial for academic success especially for subjects such as chemistry, methods, or simply just maths and science in general where they are hundreds of marks to complete in very little time - I introduce the Pomodoro Technique and other time management strategies to help students efficiently allocate study time and maintain focus. My adaptable tutoring style allows me to tailor these steps to meet the unique needs of each student. I am dedicated to creating a supportive and collaborative learning environment, fostering academic growth and creating a lifelong love for learning. ----------------------------------------- WHAT ATAR SUBJECTS DO I TUTOR?($50) - Year 11/12 Chemistry - Year 11/12 Mathematics General and Essentials - Year 11/12 English - Year 11/12 Business ----------------------------------------- WHAT LOWER-SCHOOL SUBJECTS(YEAR 1-10) DO I TUTOR? ($45) - English - Science - Math - HASS ----------------------------------------- LESSON AVAILABILITY - I am available Weekday afternoons and Weekends at the Library or online. I also offer online tutoring services for those that prefer that instead! Feel free to message me if there is any concerns or anything else you would like to know 😊
