From high achievers looking for an academic edge, to students struggling with their grades and frustrated with school — I work with a wide range of primary, secondary and university students. I am particularly passionate about helping students struggling to learn effectively in their classroom environment and have broad experience assisting students with a number of learning disorders ranging from mild to severe. As a specialist education needs tutor, I provide NDIS compatible invoicing on request (dependent on the coverage of your plan). In addition to providing holistic academic support to students from years 2-12, I tutor International Baccalaureate subjects (IB) and specialise in preparing primary and secondary students for external assessments, scholarship applications and selective school entrance exams including: NAPLAN, American SAT, and HAST /entry to Brisbane State High School. I am a specialist tutor with a strong academic record — Graduating with honours from the UQ School of Law in 2023. Drawing from several years of experience working with large groups, private bookings and after-school college classrooms — I provide a unique service to my clients helping them to holistically improve their academic outlook. I approach each student as an individual with their own unique strengths, weaknesses, learning styles and interests. I adjust accordingly to my clients needs, seeking to provide the best service for each individual. I believe that education is best valued and appreciated by students when they find purpose and enjoyment in their activities. For this reason, I seek to make every subject as engaging and enjoyable as possible, and attempt to demonstrate real world application to whatever we are studying. Andrew is by far the best tutor we have ever employed for my son. Andrew is very professional - he is always well prepared and knows the Queensland Education curriculum very well. Andrew has a very good rapport with my son, and has suceeded in keeping my son interested and engaged in preparingassessments, revising for exams, and improving my son's study skills. Andrew has excellent insight into neurodiversity. I believe this is a very important reason Andrew has been so successful with my son. Andrew has worked with my son in all of his Year 12 courses, including English, Maths, Religion, Biology, and Legal Studies. I interviewed and trialled several potential tutors before deciding to employ Andrew. Choosing Andrew was the best decision we made for my son. I only wish we found him earlier! Andrew's calm nature, and immense patience was exactly what my son needed. I wholeheartedly recommend Andrew Alexander as a tutor.

Andrew is an outstanding tutor. My son was struggling with English and Legal Studies in Year 12 after switching subjects and facing new assessment expectations. Once a high achiever, he was devastated by low marks and completely lost confidence. Andrew not only supported him academically but also taught him how to understand assessment criteria, approach non-scientific research, and develop lifelong study strategies. Most importantly, he helped my son rebuild his confidence. The turnaround was incredible—he achieved a perfect mark in English, and his exam essay was selected as a school exemplar. Andrew has a rare gift—not just for teaching content, but for mentoring students with empathy and a long-term view of success. We’re deeply grateful. Thank you, Andrew!

I cannot recommend Andrew highly enough as a tutor. I contacted Andrew as my son was needing assistance with Year 11 English. Despite putting in a decent effort across, he was struggling to get results that reflected this. Andrew was very quick to respond to my first contact, he was enthusiastic, flexible in his timing, and very easy to communicate with. His tutoring was worth every cent, because not only has my son had an excellent improvement in his grade, more importantly Andrew has instilled confidence in him that he is capable of excelling at English, and he now doesn’t find the subject as daunting as he previously did. My son’s direct feedback was that he found Andrew personable, friendly and very approachable. Andrew explained more complex ideas in a clear manner, which made the time spent with him extremely efficient. Andrew is very thorough and ensures the topic is well understood, and my son is now actually looking forward to another term of English.

My son, who is in the midst of completing his International Baccalaureate, initially found it challenging to navigate the Theory of Knowledge (TOK) and Extended Essay (EE) criteria. Despite having a wealth of ideas, he struggled to express them succinctly and in alignment with the IB standards. However, after several tutoring sessions, Harry gained a clearer understanding of the IB expectations and discovered how to harmonise his creative impulses with the academic demands. With Andrew's mentorship over recent months, Harry has become more directed and engaged in his studies, leading to a boost in both his self-assurance and academic performance. Andrew's commitment and effectiveness as a tutor come highly recommended.

My family selected Andrew to provide tutoring support for my 9 year old son in preparation for his Year 5 NAPLAN tests. My son is both an Aspergers and ADHD child, so he is extremely bright but can often get to the correct answer himself without following the traditional methods taught in schools. The downside however is that in tests or assessments that require a process to be followed he would not receive full marks for his tests due to it not confining to traditional learning methods. Andrew was able to identify this very early on during his assessments of Harvey, and was able to build a comprehensive tutoring plan that empowered his strengths whilst investing the relevant time on the areas he needed to improve or focus on with more attention before answering. The great news is that my son achieved very strong NAPLAN results and I have no doubt he went in as best prepared as he could be thanks to the support from Andrew. Andrew is now tutoring both of my sons as they have built a strong rapport with him and really enjoy his tutoring style. I can't recommend Andrew more highly for the support he has provided my family with our children's additional learning support.

We highly recommend Andrew. He is organised, purposeful, intelligent and personable, and has generated new positive behaviours for our son who loves working with him. Andrew continues to do amazing tutoring, gets things done, helps our son plan and organise, think critically and create, and which our son really could not do without!

Character references

Could not recommend Andrew highly enough, his skills as a tutor and quality as a person are outstanding. Andrew helped me complete grade 12 with a 99.1 ATAR to show for it. He guided me through grade 12 by helping me with assignments, studying, and external/internal exam preparation. Aiding in lifting me from a predicted ATAR of 74 to being able to get into any course I want. Furthermore, Andrew is incredibly versatile, and can tutor multiple subjects. For me, he helped with Economics, literature, specialist maths, methods, physics, and chemistry. Each in which he displayed an immense amount of knowledge. Alongside his professional ability, Andrew is an incredibly patient, and understanding person. You can tell he genuinely enjoys teaching, and helping people. Again, could not recommend Andrew highly enough.
