About

Dentist (Doctor of Dental Surgery) | English/ EAL/ Med School Interview Tutoring | 7 years, 4000+ hours tutoring experience | VCE Examiner notes Currently a dentist, graduated from Caulfield Grammar School with an atar of 98.95, Bachelor of Biomedicine at Unimelb and Doctor of Dental Surgery at Unimelb, specialising in EAL and English tutoring for high school students and also for medical school interviews. I’m not the smartest, but having been through the whole process of VCE, Uni, GAMSAT, Interviews to finally get into my dream course, i hope to motivate and bring out the best out of my students to achieve their dreams. Experience: -Experienced tutor with 7+ years of experience (4000+ hours), including being a tutor at Caulfield Grammar School - My past teachers have also introduced me to tutor several of their students privately (proving my highly responsible and trustworthy nature) - 70+% of my students achieved 40+ and 25+% achieved 45+in English/EAL - 75+% of my students have been successful in attaining an offer from selective schools (Year 9/ 10 entry) - 80% of my interview training students have received offer for medicine/ dentistry courses - Many learning resources available on hand. - Speaks fluent Chinese and Cantonese so that I would be able to help Chinese background students to have a better understanding without having to go home without feeling confident about what is being taught. - Currently has over 15 students and schedule is quite full, so if interested please contact ASAP. - Held over 30 mock medical school interviews designed specifically for particular uni according to their MMI question types. Most students have been successful with obtaining medical school offers. Approach in tutoring: Smarter not harder!! STOP reading the text 3-4 times without knowing why you doing it! STOP reading the dictionary to expand on vocabs! I had been tutored by a past VCE EXAMINER for EAL and would be able to pass on the same notes and tips that she had given me previously. This is integral as I know exactly what VCE examiners look for when they mark English essays. I also have connections from Caulfield Grammar School, which allows me to provide the most updated info to my own students. Indeed, to do well in English and EAL, it is not necessarily just about using “big words”, but having a confident way of writing through a set structure in different essay types. BE SYSTEMATIC! That's the only way to build consistency and obtain improvements. To me, there are 3 main stages in building a solid foundation to a good essay. This includes 1) understanding what's the aim of the essay type (not just writing for submission), 2) planning (critical step for a good essay) and 3) writing with solid structure and fluency. I will go through each of these steps carefully for each essay type, until you understand what you are writing and why you are writing it that way. With my careful guidance and unique method of teaching with graphs and diagrams to make English more objective rather than subjective, my current students have all been able to achieve their full potential. Some are able to jump from a C+ to A, while others are able to enter extension classes or selective schools. Not only that, I aim to integrate time management skills and organisation skills into my class, as I'm a strong believer in maximising your effort for the best possible ATAR. In addition, mentorship is just as important as tutoring in my classes. As someone who has worked through the whole draining process of high school to undergrad to postgrad (exams after exams) to achieve my dream, I aim to provide the best guidance and advices to those who are just as passionate and aspiring to achieve their goals. DREAM BIG! With the correct guidance and determination, I strongly believe that my motivation can allow one to step out of their comfort zone and strive for their goals. Summer program available from late December till February. The first option is a 1 on 1 class, which is a flexible intensive program with 1-2 classes per week that I have designed for student who want to get a head start for the year ahead no matter for which subject they want to go through. Most students attending this program tend to feel more confident overall heading into next year to take on the challenge to overcome a steep learning curve. The second option is in particular to English. With respect to English exams, language analysis is an essay type that is commonly ignored by school and teachers as language analysis is not a SAC under VCAA guidelines. Hence, most schools tend to neglect language analysis practice until end of year, which would then be too late for students to feel confident and do well in. Due to this critical flaw among most schools in Victoria, I have created a summer program (group classes of 3-5 students) that target language analysis specifically to go through the techniques in passage breakdown, language technique identifications, essay planning and essay structure. This would be a weekly class of 2h per class (around 8-10 classes in total), priced at $60 per class per student. A structured timetable can be sent upon request. This is an extremely popular class, so please contact me about this summer program if interested. This could be held in Glen Waverley library. (ALL FULL) Available for tutoring in Glen Waverley library and online tutoring. My rate is $110/hr for 1 on 1 (Year 11-12), $95/hr for 1 on 1 (Year 9-10), $70/hr for 1 on 1 (Year 7-8), $75/hr/ person for groups of 2 and $60/hr/ person for groups of >3. (Form your own groups with your friends to be most at ease when collaborating with each other!) Please don’t hesitate to contact if you are interested, as places are limited! Look forward to hear from you.
