Oxford Uni | Tutor for 9 years | Top of Literature | 98 ATAR | PhD researcher
*** Please note: due to high demand for lessons and needing to work around my university research and teaching schedule, I now release weekly lesson slots on a first-come, first serve basis through my online booking page. Please enquire to be given access to the link and to book.
I am an English and Literature tutor who teaches online. I have a first-class Master's degree from the University of Oxford. I work primarily as a writer and tutor.
I have been tutoring young people and adults for nine years. I am extremely familiar with English and Literature curricula in Australia. As a researcher and teacher at universities I can also extend students by introducing them to material taught at this level.
My WACE Literature results were among the top ten in Western Australia, and I achieved an ATAR of 98.
At The University of Western Australia, I was awarded the Katherine Moss prize for the highest Honours result in English and Cultural Studies. My writing has been published in numerous magazines and books, including Westerly (poems from this anthology are often studied in WACE Literature and English classes).
The majority of my students I tutor for consecutive years until they complete Year 12. My continued experience with tutoring English and Literature students has made me very familiar with the styles of essays expected in both subjects; and I am up to date with the latest Good Answers booklets, where my own WACE essay was featured. I have a thorough understanding of the course requirements, exam structure and terminology used in each syllabus, and I have collected and developed numerous study resources, which I share with all of my students.
My main reason for tutoring has always been that I thoroughly enjoy it. Sharing my passion for reading and writing with my students, and seeing them meaningfully engage with these too is always a joy. English in particular is a course that allows students to play to their strengths, and I enjoy tailoring my teaching to each student's unique skill set and helping them to flourish in the course.
I am familiar with the texts commonly taught in school curricula (1984, Frankenstein, Jasper Jones, The Longest Memory, Lord of the Flies, To Kill a Mockingbird, No Sugar, Remembering Babylon, The Handmaid's Tale, Yeats, Heaney, Harwood, Bradbury, etc). I regularly teach these texts and have written about them in my own High School and University studies.
I am also able to advise students on completing university applications - many of the larger universities overseas like Cambridge, Oxford, and the Ivy Leagues require personal statements or essays as part of the application process. How to write these is not often taught at Australian schools.
During lessons, I am able to:
- help students complete homework and assignments
- assist students with test and exam preparation
- improve students' understanding of key concepts
- build on students' exam technique
- encourage students to develop positive study habits and organisational skills
All lessons are currently held online via video call.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. I look forward to hearing from you!
