About

๐ŸŒŸ 99.90 ATAR ๐ŸŒŸ 96+ English Advanced, Maths Ext 1, Modern History and Legal Studies ๐ŸŒŸ Hello everyone! Iโ€™m Mary, an actuarial student at UNSW under the Co-op and Scientia scholarship. I was able to achieve final HSC marks of 96+ in the HSC over a wide range of subjects whilst maintaining my leadership commitments, which allowed me to receive the prestigious Co-op scholarship. I was able to do so due to a learning framework Iโ€™ve developed, which I want to teach my students to translate their effort into higher marks. ๐ŸŽ“ ๐€๐œ๐š๐๐ž๐ฆ๐ข๐œ ๐‘๐ž๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ญ๐ฌ: โ€ขโ€โ€โ€Ž ATAR: 99.90 โ€ขโ€โ€โ€Ž Mathematics Extension 1: 97 โ€ขโ€โ€โ€Ž Legal Studies: 97 (98 in externals) โ€ขโ€โ€โ€Ž English Advanced: 96 โ€ขโ€โ€โ€Ž Modern History: 96 (Ranked 1st internally, 100/100 in NSG Trials) โ€ขโ€โ€โ€Ž Mathematics Extension 2: 94 ๐Ÿ’ก ๐Œ๐ฒ ๐“๐ž๐š๐œ๐ก๐ข๐ง๐  Success in a subject isnโ€™t purely based on ability, itโ€™s about having the right system. In Year 10, I was a straight-B English student, regularly in the bottom third of my grade even though I spent a lot of effort on the subject. Over time, I was convinced I wasnโ€™t an โ€œEnglishโ€ person. Then my tutor showed me how the system behind my strongest subjects, Maths and Modern History, worked in English too. She built upon the skills I already have, and I went on to achieve a 96 in English Advanced when I could only dream of achieving Band 6 less than two years prior. I want to help my students using the following system: During the term, we will: 1) Address gaps in knowledge. As a former student, I understand the difficulty of busy classes where the teacher canโ€™t address every studentโ€™s questions. My one-on-one sessions will help students fill in gaps in their knowledge at their own pace. 2) Develop a thorough and nuanced understanding of course content. For English and Humanities, I will help students build a more nuanced perspective beyond the teachings in the class to differentiate their responses to the marker. 3) Test true understanding through unseen questions. To prepare for exams, we will: 1) Break down the syllabus and assessment rubrics to target specific areas of improvement for higher marks. 2) Work through difficult, unique or unexpected problems to build confidence in answering them in an exam. 3) Focus on the quality rather than the quantity of questions completed, and improve by reflecting on the mistakes. What concept did we miss? What triggered the error? How to prevent this from occurring again? Thanks to this learning framework, I was able to study efficiently, leaving me with more time to participate in events, sleep and plan for university. It also helped translate my effort into tangible marks, which I know a lot of students, including myself, struggle with. I hope I can help you achieve your goals while maintaining a memorable high school experience as well!
