About

Hi, I’m Filippo. I am an Economics PhD candidate from Italy and a former visiting researcher at Monash University. I completed one of Italy’s most academically rigorous secondary-school programs, following a science-focused curriculum with advanced study in mathematics and the sciences. I later completed my university studies in Italy, including a Master’s degree in Economics with honours. I currently conduct research in behavioural economics, decision-making, statistics and econometrics. My strongest academic subjects have been economics, mathematics and quantitative methods. I have experience teaching economics to university classes of more than 100 students, as well as providing individual tutoring. I tutor high-school students in: * VCE Economics, Units 1–4 * VCE General Mathematics * VCE Mathematical Methods * Years 9–10 Mathematics * Years 9–10 Economics and Business As I completed high school in Italy, I do not have an Australian ATAR or VCE study scores. However, I tailor my lessons to the Victorian curriculum, the relevant VCE study design and the materials used by each student’s school. My teaching style is friendly, patient and structured. I focus on helping students understand why a concept or method works, rather than simply memorising an answer. For quantitative subjects, I explain problems step by step and gradually help students become more confident working independently. I can help with: * Understanding difficult concepts * Revising class content * Preparing for SACs, tests and examinations * Working through mathematics and economics problems * Improving written economics responses * Identifying gaps in knowledge * Developing effective study and problem-solving strategies I have also been playing guitar for 15 years, with a particular interest in jazz guitar, improvisation and music theory. I am available to provide introductory guitar lessons for beginners who want to learn basic technique, chords, rhythm, scales and the foundations of music theory. Each lesson is adapted to the student’s level, current material and personal goals. Students are welcome to send me their course outline, textbook chapters, practice questions or musical interests before the lesson so that we can use our time effectively. I offer lessons in person in Melbourne or online.
