About
Experienced English and VCE Media Teacher (Years 7 to 12)
Hello! My name is Eliza. I am a fully qualified secondary school teacher with a Master of Secondary Teaching from Monash University and four years of full-time, ongoing classroom teaching experience at McKinnon Secondary College. With over ten years of private and school-based tutoring experience, I offer expert, curriculum-specific support designed to help students build confidence, improve their grades, and excel in their assessments.
As a current classroom teacher of English and Media, I have a deep and active understanding of the Victorian Curriculum and VCAA Study Designs. I know exactly what examiners look for, how school-based assessments are graded, and how to teach students to express complex ideas with clarity and sophistication.
Here is what I would bring to our tutoring sessions across my specialist areas:
For VCE English (Years 11 and 12):
I have extensive experience teaching and tutoring senior English. My approach focuses heavily on breaking down the key requirements of text response, creative writing, and argument analysis. I provide students with targeted feedback, structure templates, and vocabulary builders that transform their writing from basic summaries into sophisticated, high-scoring analytical essays.
For VCE Media (Years 11 and 12):
Media is a highly specialised subject, and finding expert guidance can make all the difference. I possess an acute understanding of the VCE Media Study Design. My classroom teaching has a proven track record of success, including the previous Year 12 cohort that achieved a strong average study score of 32 in 2025, as well as mentoring a student who received a prestigious Top Screen nomination the same year. I provide comprehensive support for both the intensive School-Assessed Task (the SAT portfolio) and end-of-year examination preparation.
For Junior and Middle School English (Years 7 to 10):
The senior years are much easier to navigate when a strong foundation is built early. I have years of experience teaching middle-school English and working with students of varying literacy levels. I focus on filling skill gaps, boosting reading comprehension, and mastering paragraph structures so that students are completely prepared for the jump into senior VCE English. I have tutored English students in the past and have a strong understanding of what skills are necessary to master in order to achieved success in senior years.
Logistics and Lesson Structure:
My standard rate is $120 dollars per hour, which is fully inclusive of lesson preparation, customised resource provisioning, and ongoing essay feedback between scheduled sessions.
I offer in-person lessons for students located in Murrumbeena, Carnegie, Oakleigh, Highett, Cheltenham, Moorabbin, and surrounding local areas. Alternatively, I run highly interactive online sessions for students across Victoria. Lessons can be booked on weeknights on either a weekly or fortnightly schedule.
Every tutoring session is tailored directly to the student's immediate school tasks, upcoming SACs, or specific learning goals. Please feel free to message me to discuss your child's needs and how we can work together to help them achieve their academic potential.
My Background, Approach, and Tutoring Philosophy:
I am a lifelong learner who remains deeply engaged with education, and I am currently completing ongoing professional development courses focused on the latest VCAA curriculum updates and advanced literacy teaching strategies. During my own schooling, my strongest academic performances were consistently in English, Performing Arts and Humanities, where I achieved top-tier marks and study scores well into the forties. This firsthand experience of academic excellence, combined with my formal university training, allows me to pass on proven, high-scoring strategies directly to my students.
My teaching style is warm, supportive, and highly collaborative, but firmly structured around clear academic goals. I do not believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. I take the time to understand each student's unique learning personality, build their confidence, and create an environment where they feel safe asking questions and making mistakes.
As a tutor, I can help your child by breaking down intimidating essay topics into manageable steps, teaching them exact formulas for high-level analysis, and providing live, actionable feedback on their drafts. Whether they are struggling to pass or striving for a perfect study score, I provide the precise accountability, expert resources, and curriculum insight they need to succeed.
