Maths and French Tutor | Finance and Banking at USYD | Hi! I’m Oscar, a 2025 high school graduate studying a Bachelor of Commerce and Advanced Studies majoring in finance and banking at the University of Sydney. I am also currently taking an elective unit in mathematics, with plans to switch my banking major to financial mathematics and statistics. I scored a 96.60 ATAR, with strong marks in Maths Advanced (92/100), Maths Extension 1 (45/50), French Extension (44/50), and French Continuers (91/100). I currently tutor maths at North Shore Tutors and have hands-on experience as a French Teaching Assistant at St Aloysius' College, where I develop students’ conversational skills through 1 on 1 practice. My tutoring approach is tailored to each student's pace, learning style, and upcoming assessments, and focuses on deep understanding rather than surface level memorisation. I use simple language to explain challenging concepts, and I aim to bring students to the point where they can teach the content back to me, because if they can explain it clearly and teach it to a friend, they truly know it. As a tutor, I personally understand the immense stress that students often encounter towards the end of high school. Therefore, I aim to keep students motivated and committed whilst fostering an encouraging environment where they are not afraid to make mistakes, emphasising that mistakes are an important part of developing content understanding and exam technique. I place a strong emphasis on exam technique as time management and avoiding silly mistakes can make the difference between a good mark and a great one. I'll share the tips and strategies that helped me achieve my own results.
