⭐ HSC Specialist English Tutor | ⭐ 1st in Sydney Boys English Extension 1 | ⭐ 1st in Sydney Boys English Extension 2 | ⭐ 95 English Advanced | ⭐ 48 English Extension 1 | ⭐ 45 English Extension 2 | ⭐ 97 Maths Advanced | USYD BCom/BA Hi, I’m Bryan. I’m a first-year Dayell Scholar at the University of Sydney, studying a Bachelor of Commerce/Bachelor of Arts (Maj. Finance & English/Min. International and Comparative Literary Studies) After transferring from Sydney Technical High School in Year 11, I graduated Sydney Boys High School in 2025 with a 95/100 English Adv (6th), 48/50 English Ext1 (1st), 45/50 English Ext2 (1st) and an ATAR of 98.2. With experience in three HSC English courses, my tutoring methodology aims to develop comprehension, adaptation and originality. The HSC syllabus aims to cultivate critical thinking through its tried and tested approach, yet many students experience English through vague and frustrating inconsistencies. English tutoring is then designed to supplement or replace what is being taught at school. However, as businesses, many of these centres ultimately rely on pre-written responses recycled through different syllabi, tutors who lack genuine engagement with the texts, and surface-level analysis that produces safe but forgettable responses. My tutoring pedagogy is designed from a student’s perspective, providing methods that drive a highly nuanced conceptual understanding and genuine appreciation of the English language. I achieve this by helping students: - Maximise internal assessment marks and ranks through feedback tailored to school, teacher, and marking criteria. - Develop distinctive personal interpretations that stand out from state-wide responses without being risky or inaccessible. - Adapt proven analytical frameworks into deeply researched, contemporary arguments rather than rote templates. With each year under an English syllabus, the standards rise at marking centres. Markers have sharper clarity around what constitutes a generic response, and students have more resources to draw upon. However, with the upcoming change to the syllabus, success demands that students develop their foundational skills in order to prepare strong responses without the wealth of resources that other cohorts could rely on. With this change, adaptability is paramount. Leveraging my experience, I can tutor any prescribed or related text, given adequate time for preparation. I also excel in building high-level conceptual frameworks rather than relying on pre-existing notes. English is something that I personally really enjoy. It allows me to experience a life other than my own, the persuasions and imaginations of another human mind, worlds foreign and familiar. If you are interested or have any questions, feel free to reach out, and I hope to see you in a lesson soon!
