Even maths teachers say the most important thing in the HSC is not the number you write as your final answer, but the way you communicate it. Beneath all the calculations, there is space for creativity, exploration and ambition. In Year 9, I set myself the ambitious goal of creating a Desmos calculator to compute the best mathematical strategy in the popular card game ‘Blackjack’. For more than a month, I overcame the challenges that come with something new and unpredictable.
