I have been teaching Mathematics for 20 years. This includes many years of teaching Advanced, Extension 1 and Extension 2. I am currently teaching and will take a 2026 Extension 1 class through the HSC this year. I have taught in public and private schools throughout my career. I have taught students who have achieve Band E4 results in Ext 2 and Ext 1, and Band 6 results in Advanced Mathematics. My teaching style is concept based. With my extensive experience, I can identify what students are not grasping when they make errors. I do not just address the error that was made, instead presenting the conceptual misunderstanding. This allows students to identify the correct path, before returning to the problem at hand and apply the new concept to the problem. In my experience, students who are able to think graphically while attempting algebraic questions are at a significant advantage, as it allows them to achieve an extra level of self-checking while proceeding through questions. Consequently, I will teach graphical techniques wherever possible throughout the syllabus. 'Draw something' are words you will hear me say regularly. Knowing exactly where a student's zone of proximal learning is, is a skill acquired over many years of teaching hundreds of students. Whether my students are achieving at a skills proficiency or a problem-based level, I will help the student take the next step that is right for them.
