Hi! I’m Lawrence, a 2025 graduate of North Sydney Boys with a passion for languages who studied German Continuers, German Extension and Japanese Continuers. I offer tutoring for HSC German at all levels. HSC Marks: German Continuers: 97 (20/20 speaking) German Extension: 48 (15/15 writing) Japanese Continuers: 91 (without studying Japanese prior to Year 11) In the HSC, just having good German doesn’t necessarily translate to high marks if you’re not familiar with NESA marking guidelines and exam technique. The bare-bones sample answers and buzzword-filled criteria aren’t very helpful either, so I’ll show you as explicitly as possible what you actually need to do to achieve high marks (and of course help improve your Dschörmann if needed). I’m happy to mark as much work (within reason) as you can send me, with detailed written feedback/suggestions (to a stricter standard than the HSC) and will respond online as quickly as I can to any questions you have! - I’m open to a free trial session first - Face-to-face is preferred - Anywhere accessible by public transport within 40 minutes from Epping or Eastwood is ideal - Message to discuss availability! Beginners/Continuers Before we approach any component of the paper, I’ll have you complete that component as a trial first just to identify your strengths and weaknesses. Then, we’ll work on: - general strategies for approaching each section - identifying and addressing all the question types in the Listening and Reading sections and avoiding common “traps” If you wish to “save” papers, I can also create my own exam material for you, as well as practice material focused on the areas where you need it. We’ll also learn to - break down writing questions into approachable components then address them - deal with different types of speaking interview questions. - I can also provide conversational practice for speaking exams – both for specific topics/skills with feedback on the spot as well as 10-minute mock interviews. - Because I also taught our school German Club, I can explain grammar structures by breaking down the underlying logic so that you can actually retain them.
