Hi everyone! My name is Grace, and I recently graduated from St George Girls School and am offering private tutoring for high school students who are looking to improve their marks.
What I’m studying now
I’m studying a Bachelor of Commerce and Laws at the University of Sydney as a Dalyell Scholar, with an interest in finance.
My academic background & results
Unlike many other high-performing students who have consistently excelled throughout their entire school life, I started as a struggling student. I found school tedious and boring early on and performed average despite my efforts. It wasn’t until Year 11 that I truly discovered my potential, after learning how to study effectively, genuinely find interest in what I was learning, think strategically, and approach assessments with confidence. I want to show other current students their potential.
Part of it was thanks to my teachers and tutors, so I know how big a difference teachers make to a student's learning and thereby marks and enjoyment. That's why I want to give back the same to my students.
My HSC results were:
- English Advanced – 93 (HSC examination mark of 96) (rank 6 trials SGG)
- Mathematics Extension 1 – 96 (rank 2 SGG)
- Mathematics Extension 2 – 92 (rank 12 SGG)
- Economics – 90 (rank 12 SGG)
- Legal Studies – 92 (rank 5 SGG)
ATAR: 98.70
My teaching style:
- English Advanced: I help students move from basic responses to sophisticated, original analysis. English is often more structured and logical than many students would expect. Lessons with me will focus on essay structure, essay formation, how to build sophisticated analysis within the paragraphs, how to study for an upcoming essay and how to answer the question on exam day.
Maths Extension 1 & 2: I break down difficult concepts step by step and focus heavily on logical reasoning, and then I'll provide homework each week. I will ensure students understand the why, as that will allow them to link concepts within the syllabus and tackle the harder questions. I also teach students how to actually study effectively and EFFICIENTLY, how to avoid common exam traps and manage time effectively during exams.
Economics: I will teach my students how to write high mark essays, which are very different to other subjects' essays. This will include structure, how to answer the question, and how to prepare for the many possible essay questions on the day. I will also teach how to seamlessly integrate and balance accurate theory with relevant contemporary examples and graphs. I will also clearly go over content ahead of the school timeline to ensure my student is confident and can learn multiple times (learning curve).
Legal Studies: I will focus on ensuring the student genuinely enjoys legal studies. There's A LOT of content in legal studies, and it's all pretty interesting once someone guides you through it. I will teach my students content ahead of time, and regularly use LCMID, as well as teach them how to write a Band 6 legal studies essay, as those encompass 65% of the legal studies HSC examination.
I've got plenty of otherwise paid resources for English Adv, Economics, Legal Studies, and Maths Ext 1+2 that I will share with my students for free, and I've had experience tutoring high school students from year 8-12, since the end of my HSC.
I’m also happy to provide advice and support 24/7 outside of tutoring sessions, whether that’s questions on homework, essays, content, feedback on essays/practice papers, marking or emotional guidance during exam blocks.
Message me here if you are interested or have any questions. Thanks :)
