I’m Leon, a 2024 graduate and dux of Sydney Boys High. I am currently studying Medicine at UNSW. Contrary to what many people say, my experience in high school revealed that hard work alone ≠ good marks. So many students burn themselves out studying all day, unable to maintain a balance in life. Success in the HSC relies not only on the difficult content itself, but also on the effort to learn what’s most effective for us. What we’re looking for is 𝐞𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭 work. Using this train of thought, my goal is to help make this abundance of information easy to digest and guide you through the secrets and strategies that create an easier high school experience. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐈 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤 𝐢𝐬 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐬𝐮𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬: - Minimising silly mistakes on easier questions - Breaking down difficult questions into bite-sized chunks - Studying effectively to avoid burnout - Estimating where marks are awarded for each question (especially in sciences) - Understanding what the markers are looking for in a long response – building conciseness and coherence in your answer - Using information from your questions to guide the direction of your solution.
