Hi! I'm Marianne, a Distinction-Level, Dean's List Law/Arts student at UNSW and the 2022 School Captain of James Ruse Agricultural High School.
I have always kept busy in my high school and university life, from being a School Captain and debate competitor at James Ruse AHS, to now being President of the Barbell Club and an international competitor winning the United States National Model UN in 2025, competing at the Harvard World Model UN 2025, and selected for the prestigious UNSW Delegation to the Vienna Dispute Resolution Competition 2026.
Through a mix of academic, co-curricular, debate and leadership excellence, I have learnt many lessons and developed tested methods for students.
My best subjects in HS were English - with Band 6 or equivalent in English Advanced, Extension 1, and Extension 2 (Dux), and I also achieved Band 6 in all of my subjects, making me a HSC All-Rounder.
📝 MY APPROACH📝
I like to challenge my students' critical thinking and argumentative skills - the essential building block of any good English essay, speech or debate. With my extensive 10+ years of debate experience, I understand the ins and outs of good argumentation. I can help you make your essays and speeches compelling, thoughtful and build a central thesis that impresses your markers.
With me, you can expect:
✅ Access to my exemplar essays and essay plans/building blocks
✅ English Advanced and Extension 1 notes (e.g. analysis, quotes)
✅ General notes, such as essay builders, argument micro-structuring, speech technique, and exam strategy
✅ Essay, creative, and speech marking with extensive feedback and pointers for improvement
✅ Unlimited feedback throughout the week
✅ For debating and public speaking students: the opportunity to put your skills to the test through in-class activities
✅ Holistic approach to learning, including option of assigned readings to improve your vocabulary base, grasp of themes and seminal texts or general world knowledge
📝 MY CLASSES📝
To make the most of my classes, I recommend 1.5-2 hour sessions. From my experience, this provides more immersion and increases the focus during class time, where brief 1-hour classes don't offer the chance for extensive feedback. I offer online-only lessons.
📌ENGLISH:
I offer a 1-hour free first class, where I will analyse the student's level, weak points and areas of improvement, and suggest a learning plan for future lessons.
📌DEBATING AND PUBLIC SPEAKING:
Open to Expressions of Interest for a Debating and Public Speaking class of 4-6 students, and to individual students looking for hyper-tailored approaches.
I am offering online only tutoring via Zoom/Microsoft Teams/Google Meets.
