Hi there, I’m Sam, an actuarial professional with 13 years of experience teaching students in both classroom and private settings. I have taught Actuarial Studies at UNSW and Mathematics from Year 9 to Year 12, including Extension 2, at Dr Du Education. Over that time, I have worked with students from many of Sydney’s top schools and have helped ambitious students develop the technical foundations, exam discipline and problem-solving judgement needed to perform at a high level. My own academic background is: HSC: 98.80 ATAR, North Sydney Boys High School, 96 in Extension 2 Mathematics and 97 in Extension 1 Mathematics University: Bachelor of Actuarial Studies / Commerce (Finance), UNSW, 81 WAM, Dean’s List - top 5% My lessons are best suited to students who are already motivated, willing to work hard and want more than just homework help. I focus on building strong mathematical thinking, clean exam technique, marker-ready working, and the ability to recognise what a question is really testing. A good tutor should not just show you how to get the answer. They should help you understand why your approach works, where you are likely to lose marks, how to recover when you get stuck, and how to train under exam conditions. That is the standard I aim to bring to each lesson. I only take on a small number of students due to my corporate role, so I am selective about fit. RATES Ongoing lessons: $160/hr, with a minimum 2-hour face-to-face session The ongoing rate includes lesson preparation, targeted feedback and reasonable between-lesson support for difficult questions, subject to availability.
