ABOUT ME Hi, I'm Nian Chiong! I am currently a year 11 student attending Melbourne High School, offering in person and online one-on-one tutoring for students year 10 and below. I received a 1st round offer into Melbourne High, with 4 superiors. I currently take 6 VCE subjects, Biology 3/4, Chemistry 1/2, English Language 1/2, French Language 1/2, Math Methods 1/2, and Specialist Maths 1/2. I specialise in teaching Maths, English, and Writing, especially for those students who want to get into selective schools. I provide reliable and structured approach to help younger students excel in these core subjects. As a student attending a selective entry school, I understand the discipline and focus required to excel in school, or even just to keep up, especially for those who have extracurriculars. I, myself play volleyball for both club at the division 2 level and for the school's seniors team. I have flown to play interstate multiple times and know what it's like to be behind on classwork and have to catch up under heavy workload. Additionally, I have to train 3-4 times a week, with weekly matches. All of this has taught me the importance of discipline, effective time management, and 'working smart.' I bring these methods into my tutoring sessions to help my students feel their best and reap the most out of their time, without resulting in burnout. ABOUT THE LESSON I offer personalised support designed to build confidence and connect the gaps in understanding. I'll review previous lessons to ensure my student keeps the material in their memory long-term because learning isn't about memorising things one and done. It's about keeping them in your head and applying them in future instances. Whether your child needs to master complex math equations, refine their writing, solidify their writing and grammar skills, I provide: - Year 1-10 Curriculum Support: Aligned with the school standards. - Selective Entrance & Scholarship Prep: Sharing the strategies that I used to help me get a 1st round offer into MHS with 4 superiors. - Skill-Specific Coaching: Focused sessions on essay structure, mental mathematics & reading comprehension. I take an understanding and peer-based approach to teaching. Having recently gone through the same subjects my students are currently taking, I can explain difficult concepts in a way that's easy to understand and apply. I prefer in person tutoring, whether that's in a library or at my student's house, however I am also able to discuss plans for online tutoring.
