About
99.20 ATAR | Maths and Music Tutor | Psychology Student at University of Sydney
Hi! I'm Angela, currently studying a Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) as a Dalyell Scholar at the University of Sydney. I'm a tutor with 3.5 years of experience.
🧮 Why choose me for maths? 🧮
I achieved a 93 in Extension 1, and 91 in Extension 2, and was the top-ranked maths student at my school. I have tutored students across all ability levels - from those feeling behind and having a dislike for maths, to high-achieving students aiming for band 6 results. I focus on breaking maths problems into clear step-by-step explanations, strengthening core understanding of difficult concepts, exam preparation and time management strategies, targeted practice questions to quickly improve weak areas, and building confidence with unfamiliar and HSC-style questions. I aim to help students move beyond memorising steps, to actually understanding how and why maths works.
🎶 Why choose me for music? 🎶
I have a strong background in piano performance and music theory, having studied piano since the age of 3. My achievements include an AMusA with Distinction (Piano Performance), a 98 in Music 2, 49 (out of 50) in Music Extension, and an Encore nomination for piano performance. I tutor students doing Music Theory and Musicianship (AMEB Grade 1-5), AMusA preparation for general knowledge component, and or Music 2 (Musicology). My music tutoring focuses on achieving a clear understanding of theory and piece/score analysis, aural skills, exam preparation (AMEB or HSC), and breaking down complex musical concepts simply. I have been referred students by experienced piano teachers to provide specialist support in helping students develop theoretical knowledge and general skills required for success in their examinations. I have experience preparing students for the AMusA general knowledge component, while their instrumental teacher focuses on their preparing the performance component.
My teaching approach? 👩🏻🏫
- Pre-teaching concepts so students feel prepared before school content
- Elaborative questioning (ask "why" and "how") to build deep understanding, build intuition, and discourage rote memorisation
- Self-explanation (teach-back) encourages students to explain a concept or walk me through a problem step-by-step in their own words to strengthen memory and expose gaps in understanding
- Targeted practice with reflection so mistakes turn into improvement
This approach helps students become more confident, independent learners who can apply knowledge in any exam situation
