Hi there, My name is Louis Goldsmith, I am a final-year medical student at UNSW and have been tutoring mathematics, physics and chemistry for five years. I graduated from Sydney Grammar School in 2020 with an ATAR of 99.90 and scores of 99, 98, 97 and 97 in Mathematics Extension 1, Mathematics Extension 2, Physics and Chemistry respectively. I have a no-nonsense approach to tutoring: For me, having an intuitive grasp of first principles is indispensable. I encourage students to teach me what they know when discussing a topic, as this is the most efficient method for identifying misconceptions. This old-school, viva-style approach is initially daunting, but delivers long-term results, as it encourages the student to attain a higher standard - one where they know the content so thoroughly that they can teach, rather than merely answer questions for which they have memorised the method or 'trick'. In addition to mastering first principles, I place equal emphasis on completing past questions. I have access to many resources including past exam papers, which we will use to reinforce theory and hone exam technique. You might be perfectly familiar with the theory for a subject, but silly mistakes and poor time management could cost you 10-12 marks in an exam (if not more).
