About
Hey students!
You must be searching across the many faces visible on this site, and wondering "is this person right for me?". Therefore, I intend to talk about the services which I offer :
- Affordability (lower than average rate, of only $35/hr)
- Consistency (deciding on a class time tailored to your needs - I've been tutoring for 3+ years!)
- Flexibility (understandably, things can change, and I'll be there with you through thick and thin)
- Resourcefulness (I have thousands of SAC questions, exam questions for every single subject, so many that I even send these to you as homework)
- Score : Raw 45 English, study score of 40+ in every subject ranging from Maths Methods, Specialist Maths, Chemistry, Biology.
I can promise with all my heart, that I will strive to not just make you knowledgeable, but also motivated and driven. In my Year 12 days, I, for the first time, understood that VCE is not just about understanding the content and much more so about implementing it in SAC styled questions, understanding SAC structure and being constantly driven even in SAC-heavy weeks.
It might seem counter-intuitive, but indeed, getting to know your SACs and teachers accounts for as much of the preparation as does the content specified within the VCAA study design. Hence, you must understand this : all SACs (for all subjects) and exams have 1 thing in common - they have an opportunity for you to separate yourself from the rest of the cohort.
It was a long journey for me since Year 11 to get to truly know that these opportunities even existed, and that journey was fruitful in that I was able to score a Raw 45 in English for instance. Not sure what I mean? Let me explain with some examples.
Picture you are a Year 12 English student and your school decides it's doing "All the Light We Cannot See" (a book about a the journey of a talented German boy confusingly surviving Nazi rule in WW2 and a blind French girl persevering through the wartime plundering of France). There are 2 prompts available in the final exam :
(1) War brings out the worst of humanity. Discuss.
(2) War can be survived through courage. Discuss.
Many students would choose topic (2) because it is a relatively easy topic to write upon and does not require stringent argumentation. However, I like to repeat the phrase "if it's easy, it's easy for everyone". Indeed, the trick here is that even though topic (1) appears "easy", it actually has a very beautiful yet rare opportunity to argue for the opposing side, that "war has the capacity to bring out the best of humanity too". You might be wondering "how can that be?", and that's exactly what we want the examiner to be wondering. Although war is nefarious, it can see people develop tenacity, support for community through resistance movements and steel them to ensure their children have a safe life.
This is just one of the examples for one of the subjects, for even Maths Methods has direct questions at the end - all application, which are designed to test people's understanding beyond what's taught. All this can be predicted in advance, and it requires knowledge, understanding of the SAC patterns and importantly, drive. This is exactly what I will work to build with you and apply it in front of you.
How the lessons will look :
Depending on how long you want the lesson to be, we will first go over the content. Every type of question I face, I will tell you how it can be applied in a SAC context and demonstrate via a question; then I will let you try a variant of that question. I will go through all your doubts and build the understanding early on, while also motivating you.
Somewhere or the other, we need to understand the beauty of the subject and only then can we understand the beauty of the questions and hence, expect, answer them. For English, Biology, I will go over the book and analyse a lot of examples and commit to a lot of practise paragraphs/questions before we move into full essays (unless you wish to do essays first). For mathematics, I will share my screen and I'll teach through a digital whiteboard with my apple pen.
Even if you are just curious and unsure about learning with me, please do reach out by messaging me! I'd like to hear from you and help you, get to know you. We can embark on this journey together, with calmed nerves and ensure you get exactly what you want!
