Hello, my name is Alyssa and I’m excited to offer some tutoring 😊 I’m currently studying post-graduate level chemistry and neuroscience at the University of New England. I also have my bachelor’s degrees in teaching and psychology from the University of Newcastle. The area I’m interested in tutoring the most is Years 11 & 12 chemistry. Back when I had just finished school, my year 12 chemistry teacher recommended me to help the next group of seniors. He described me as his best example of how curiosity can lead to exceptional improvement, transforming to one of the top performers in the class. So, I did tutor some year 12 students, and their results improved drastically. I think a lot of tutors can be intimidating for high school students, but I’m quite a relatable person and I've learned how to break things down in a way that makes sense, especially for students who feel overwhelmed. What I bring now is a down-to-earth approach that makes complex ideas feel simple, understandable and even enjoyable! Having lived experience as a teacher in a classroom, I also understand different learning styles and can adjust my tutoring style to suit the student. I have a genuine love for chemistry and helping people understand these incredibly interesting concepts. I’m hoping my passion and love for the topic can inspire some high school students. My rate is $75 per hour for one-on-one, or $50 per person per hour for small group session (2 or 3 students). For small group sessions, I’d recommend 75-90-minute sessions, but I’m flexible and happy to work with your needs. I work in Cardiff NSW and live in Cliftleigh NSW, so my availability is different depending on your location.
