ENGLISH ADVANCED TUTORING I'm Geoffrey and I graduated from Sydney Boys in 2024 with an ATAR of 99.80, ranking 1st in both English Advanced and English Extension 1 out of a cohort of 215 people. I've had the privilege of guiding over thirty students and drastically reshaping what they think about academics and school in general into a positive outlook. I offer 1 on 1 online tutoring support to years 7-12 for English advanced and English standard dsf As a student who struggled with English even in year 12 and only achieving top marks mid-way through, I understand how demoralising and unfair the subject may seem. I demystify this very confusion by teaching key differentiators in writing that help students present themselves as gifted writers, differentiators that I found throughout my own journey. Additionally, I teach students how to write on-demand and help with answering the question by using reproducible formulas that enable students to consistently achieve top marks. ▒▒▒▒ 𝗠𝘆 𝟯 𝗣𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝐴𝑡𝑡𝑖𝑡𝑢𝑑𝑒: adopting a ‘growth’ mindset; falling in love with the process of wrestling with a new concept; going from 0 knowledge on a topic to completely mastering it. I treated maths like a video game. When I sat down for a session, I was aiming to just level up that little bit more than yesterday; to gain a few more equations for my toolbox, and applying them to increasingly exotic questions. 𝐴𝑝𝑝𝑟𝑒𝑐𝑖𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛: English is beautiful to me. It's a language that describes the world around us in all its complexity. Studying english was so pleasant because I could see its direct usefulness to society. I set out to try see the utility from my other subjects, making studying them fun too! 𝑆𝑦𝑠𝑡𝑒𝑚𝑠: learning maths was formulaic to me. You followed reliable processes to brew a mumbling-jumbling mess of a question into a neat and ordered final solution. I knew I could create a ‘formula’ – a predictable recipe for my other subjects, to make them easier to tackle. ▒▒▒▒ 𝟭-𝟭 𝗛𝗲𝗹𝗽 𝗢𝘂𝘁𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝗼𝗼. In class, we go through the content to get you ahead. But you can ask me questions any time! Even between classes! ▒▒▒▒ Actionable Advice: It's not good enough to be told "embed the quote" or "be more specific" without knowing when to implement the advice.
