Hi all!
I am Lucas Chen, a recent graduate of the Conservatorium High School currently studying a Bachelor of Science double majoring in Mathematics and Physics as part of the Dalyell Scholars program at USYD.
In the HSC, I achieved an ATAR of 99.15 with Band 6 in all 11 subjects, and ranked first in Physics internally.
My Music HSC performance was nominated for Encore and I attained 97 and 49/50 in Music 2 and Music Extension performance respectively.
For English Advanced, the texts I did were:
Common Module: The Merchant of Venice by William Shakespeare
Module A: Mrs. Dalloway by Virginia Woolf and The Hours directed by Stephen Daldry
Module B: T. S. Eliot
My Common Module and Module A essays both received 20/20 in trials, and received 19/20 in my Module C assessment.
For Mathematics, I did Extension 1 and Extension 2, and also received credit at the prestigious UNSW Mathematics Competition.
My experience tutoring includes teaching my Chemistry class at school when the teacher was away, and also teaching piano for all ages, from primary school students to retired university professors. I have also mentored friends at school with English, Physics, and Mathematics.
Other achievements include the ensemble I founded being invited to perform at the Government House, and High Distinction in both the Australian Physics and Chemistry Olympiads.
I was also the recipient of the Australian Defence Force Future Innovators Award twice (2022 and 2024).
My teaching style promotes active engagement of the student by linking disparate ideas to synthesise deep understanding. By catering to the students perspectives, I can find the most logical path for them to find the meaning themselves, rather than rely on rote-learning.
