💎 Dux of Waverley College 2024 💎 97.90 ATAR 💎 7th in State PDHPE Hello, my name is James Medland and I graduated as the dux of Waverley College in 2024. I am currently studying a Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Science (Exercise Therapy) at UTS. Having graduated in 2024 I am very familiar with the current stage 6 syllabus for HSC students, but more importantly I have also had a year of tutoring experience helping 7 students throughout the HSC in 2025, including PDHPE, Biology and SOR. I specialise in helping students prepare for the HSC exams with the end goal in mind. I am a tutor specialising in: - Biology ⚡ - Standard, Advanced and Extension English ⚡ - PDHPE (7th in NSW) ⚡ - Studies of Religion (1 and 2) ⚡ I have achieved band 6 results in Mathematics Advanced, PDHPE, English Advanced SOR II and Biology. Receiving 96+ in SOR II and PDHPE. (note; not currently doing tutoring for the new 'Health and Movement Science' Syllabus) What sets me apart from other tutors: ⭐ Passion and Dedication for Subjects ⭐ I understand the importance of a tutor being genuinely interested and positive about the subject content and student progression. I aim to create a positive and comfortable learning environment that helps to make lessons interesting and facilitates students to challenge themselves and be curious. Crafting lessons into engaging experiences will help my students develop a deeper understanding and shift their mindset into being excited to learn and improve. ⭐ Flexible ⭐ I understand that the schedule of a high school student can be busy and not always regular. I offer a variety of one-on-one and group sessions in both an in-person or online format via Zoom. I am happy to come to a student's home or meet up at a local library to cater for their preferred learning environment. I will also ensure that I am available to do extra sessions for students during busy exam times to fit in with their demands. ⭐ Experience ⭐ I have tutored 6 students over the past year to get band 6 results in PDHPE and Biology through an individualised approach. I have worked as a swimming instructor and sailing coach for the last few years. This has significantly improved my coaching skills and my ability to effectively communicate and work with children and teenagers. ⭐ Mindset ⭐ Despite working as hard as I could and constantly seeking improvement I always seeked to maintain a positive attitude towards learning and the journey. Just because it is difficult does not mean it has to be bad. I want to help students academically but also to understand how working hard and achieving difficult milestones can allow them to understand important lessons about themselves and their character. I want to help students build up this self-belief and confidence so they can understand that if they apply themselves in the right way they will succeed. ⭐ Understand the value of time ⭐ I am incredibly aware of the importance of using the time within each session effectively to ensure that students get as much out of it as they possibly can. My tutoring sessions ensure that students get personalised help and feedback, which is not always possible within the classroom, while also strengthening their weak areas. I will help students get their specific questions answered and work on the most important areas to help them build success in both the short and long term. ⭐ Exam Technique and Strategy ⭐ Tutors do not sit next to students when they do exams. Therefore, I understand the importance of developing skills and strategies to help students perform at their best for assessments. This means I assist students in getting them to develop a deep understanding of the content and applicable writing strategies to ensure that they are effective with their time and energy when completing their exams. I understand what HSC markers are looking for within responses and with my specific formulas I can help students to build habits and strategies to effectively answer questions. 🚨 I also offer free resources and plans to students while also allowing them to send me essays and practice questions to mark and gain extensive personal feedback quickly.
