Hi, I’m Olivia, and I have a passion for teaching. I have 9 years of experience tutoring students from grades 7-12, and during this time I have helped more than 150 different students achieve their academic goals. I specialise in tutoring senior students in years 11 and 12 who are seeking to develop their skills and improve their grades. I am deeply knowledgeable on, and have extended experience in tutoring, the various assessment genres, criteria and content for the QLD ATAR subjects English, Literature, Ancient History, Modern History, English Extension and Studies of Religion.
My tutoring is grounded in a rigorous academic background. In 2015, I graduated from high school with an OP 1 (equivalent to ATAR 99.95). I was the dux of English, Ancient History and Modern History. In 2020, I graduated from the University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Arts. I achieved a high cumulative GPA of 6.4 across both my majors in English Literature and Ancient History. My consistent academic excellence throughout my education has allowed me to establish myself as a highly knowledgeable tutor in these subject areas.
However, I could not have become a skilled and effective educator if not for my extended tutoring experience. I have tutored many senior students privately in the English and History subject areas every year for the past 9 years. I have also been employed as an academic tutor at 2 boarding schools here in Brisbane for the past 3 years, where I specialised in tutoring senior students. I have witnessed the transition from OP to ATAR and have developed a deep familiarity with the current curriculum for these subject areas. I have tutored a wide range of students, from those who receive lower grades and are hoping to achieve higher, to students who already achieve high grades but want to push themselves further. For each individual student, I know how to assess their skills, capabilities and goals, and then adapt my teaching to help them learn and grow without any confusion or frustration. It is my consistent experience as a tutor across these past 9 years, combined with my thorough understanding of the curriculum, which has allowed me to develop into a knowledgeable and effective tutor.
My priority as a tutor is to be as supportive, understanding, and encouraging as possible. I actively foster an atmosphere that is welcoming, reassuring, and accepting. My students are always juggling multiple commitments; between schoolwork, sport, music, other extracurriculars, part-time jobs, family and friends, they are always busy. I work hard to ensure that coming to tutoring is not just a stressful extra demand on their time, but rather, is an enriching environment that allows them to gain skills, experience accountability, feel empowered, and actually save time in the long run. I also love to find the fun in whatever we are studying - as my students can attest to! - and we are always finding opportunities to laugh and enjoy ourselves while learning. What I emphasise more than anything is respect and trying our best. Through that, we can achieve goals and find fulfilment.
As for me, I currently work full-time as a library technician in a Brisbane high school while studying my Master’s of Information Studies to become a fully qualified librarian. I find this profession to be a perfect mix of teaching and helping others combined with research and academic work which I find very interesting. I hold a valid Blue Card (Working with Children Check), as well as valid CPR and First Aid qualifications. I look forward to working together with my students to help them achieve their academic goals.
