About

Hi, I’m Olivia, and I have a passion for teaching. I have 9 years of experience tutoring students from grades 7-12, and during this time I have helped more than 150 different students achieve their academic goals. I specialise in tutoring senior students in years 11 and 12 who are seeking to develop their skills and improve their grades. I am deeply knowledgeable on, and have extended experience in tutoring, the various assessment genres, criteria and content for the QLD ATAR subjects English, Literature, Ancient History, Modern History, English Extension and Studies of Religion. My tutoring is grounded in a rigorous academic background. In 2015, I graduated from high school with an OP 1 (equivalent to ATAR 99.95). I was the dux of English, Ancient History and Modern History. In 2020, I graduated from the University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Arts. I achieved a high cumulative GPA of 6.4 across both my majors in English Literature and Ancient History. My consistent academic excellence throughout my education has allowed me to establish myself as a highly knowledgeable tutor in these subject areas. However, I could not have become a skilled and effective educator if not for my extended tutoring experience. I have tutored many senior students privately in the English and History subject areas every year for the past 9 years. I have also been employed as an academic tutor at 2 boarding schools here in Brisbane for the past 3 years, where I specialised in tutoring senior students. I have witnessed the transition from OP to ATAR and have developed a deep familiarity with the current curriculum for these subject areas. I have tutored a wide range of students, from those who receive lower grades and are hoping to achieve higher, to students who already achieve high grades but want to push themselves further. For each individual student, I know how to assess their skills, capabilities and goals, and then adapt my teaching to help them learn and grow without any confusion or frustration. It is my consistent experience as a tutor across these past 9 years, combined with my thorough understanding of the curriculum, which has allowed me to develop into a knowledgeable and effective tutor. My priority as a tutor is to be as supportive, understanding, and encouraging as possible. I actively foster an atmosphere that is welcoming, reassuring, and accepting. My students are always juggling multiple commitments; between schoolwork, sport, music, other extracurriculars, part-time jobs, family and friends, they are always busy. I work hard to ensure that coming to tutoring is not just a stressful extra demand on their time, but rather, is an enriching environment that allows them to gain skills, experience accountability, feel empowered, and actually save time in the long run. I also love to find the fun in whatever we are studying - as my students can attest to! - and we are always finding opportunities to laugh and enjoy ourselves while learning. What I emphasise more than anything is respect and trying our best. Through that, we can achieve goals and find fulfilment. As for me, I currently work full-time as a library technician in a Brisbane high school while studying my Master’s of Information Studies to become a fully qualified librarian. I find this profession to be a perfect mix of teaching and helping others combined with research and academic work which I find very interesting. I hold a valid Blue Card (Working with Children Check), as well as valid CPR and First Aid qualifications. I look forward to working together with my students to help them achieve their academic goals.

Olivia really helped me with Literature, Modern History and Study of Religion, from help with content, to how to write assignments, helping me to achieve my goals throughout senior school, as well as planning my study throughout the terms. Olivia was very friendly and aways willing to listen.

I had the privilege of being tutored by Olivia from 2016-2020 and I couldn’t be more grateful for her guidance. She had a unique ability to explain complex concepts in a way that was easy to understand, and her patience made every lesson very enjoyable. Olivia always adapted her approach to suit my needs, which helped me build confidence and excel in my studies. Beyond academics, her support has had a lasting impact on my personal growth. I wholeheartedly recommend Olivia to anyone seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable tutor.

Olivia tutored me for 1 years and a bit, I have never had more inspiring experience with a tutor or teacher in my life, she undoubtably helped me reach my full potential and showed me what felt like to have a teacher/tutor believe in you with zero hesitation. From the first lesson to the last Olivia showed so much kindness and consideration for my learning even when times were tough, she was without a second thought the best english teacher, I have had. She showed my skills and strategies to help me not just get through the hard assessment and exam times but she also never stopped pushing me to be the best I could be. There was always a next step and a "How we can improve" and again what makes Olivia different is that she made me, and I am sure all her other students believe in themselves when I and as my peers probably went into that space with very low confidence and that is truly something priceless and invaluable. Thank you Ms Liv

Olivia has been my tutor since the end 2023 and has helped so much in improving my skills and understanding of the many different units and material in year 12 English. I have seen significant improvements in my grades as Olivia has been a huge help in teaching me how to improve my writing skills. She is a very patient, kind and welcoming person, making all our tutoring lessons both fun and beneficial. Olivia has very high levels of experience with both year 12 internals and externals and in particular approaches the external in a very organised way in order to set her students up for success for the external. I am so grateful for Olivia’s help through out year 12 with both myself and teachers noticing my improvement in English. I would high recommend Olivia as a tutor!!

Olivia has been my tutor for 2 years and has significantly helped me improve not only my grades but my ability to comprehend my learning in English. She is very hard working and strives for the best when tutoring. Olivia has helped me progress over the two years to which I’m now extremely confident in understanding Shakespeare for example which had helped improve and enhance my skills for my External exams. I highly recommend Olivia for anyone who is struggling with English or any other subjects as she has helped me overcome my difficulties of learning in certain aspects and for that I am extremely grateful.

Olivia is such an amazing tutor and person. Since she started tutoring me, my writing as a whole has improved drastically, before my writing was incoherent and difficult to follow due to my inability to plan, but with Olivia's help, i understood how to effectively plan for an analytical essay, and stick to a structure that improved my cohesion. It wasn't just big things like structure and planning, but little things like signposting, using a variety of words, and varying sentence length for emphasis and variety. Studying Macbeth with her was probably my favourite though, she is so knowledgeable and was able to answer any questions i had. We had plenty of discussions about the story and through that my knowledge of the play greatly expanded to the point where i could identify what occurred in each scene. Our discussions were also very fun and full of laughter, i was always eager for our next session because i knew it would be enjoyable which i previously didn't think possible with english but turns out you just need to find the right person. She never made me feel stupid when i tried to understand what was going on, and i always felt comfortable speaking to her. I will really miss our tutes and wish i had more english assignments because it was so fun to discuss and work on them. I would definitely recommend Olivia as she is not only a great and knowledgeable tutor, but also a very kind and fun person.

Olivia was my English tutor for 2 years (2020-2021) and has helped me tremendously with all the difficult topics that year 11 and 12 have and puts in the time and effort to make sure you get an improvement in understanding topics and writing quality essays. Before I started tutoring with Olivia I was sitting on a C- as an average grade but after only a couple months of tutoring I managed to achieve an A- in my first year 11 assessment piece all thanks to Olivia. Please consider her if you seriously want to see improvements in your grades.

She does this by providing collaborative tutoring to ensure understanding and success within the topic. Additionally, she provides extra resources and is available to answer any questions between sessions through messages. Thank you!

Olivia has been a great tutor all around, she cares about the development and learning of each individual student and has been very supportive during every tute. She has a very nice personality and is easy to talk to about anything, thanks to her, my English grades have improved significantly, even surprising my teacher. I'll definitely recommend her as a tutor for anyone of any level in English or History or other subjects that she is able to help with.

I have always struggled with English and essays writing since day 1. I would always avoid my English book and study another subject instead however, when it hit grade 12 trying to avoid English wasn’t an option. Olivia changed my outlook and made English a fun and enjoyable subject to study. I began my tutoring experience feeling nervous having no idea or knowledge of the play Macbeth, I was going to sit in 6 weeks time for my English external exam. So, we sat down and went over what I did know and patiently she could answer any questions I had. Furthermore, Olivia is a caring and encouraging person. Her way of teaching was very calming and encouraging which definitely helped me to stay calm and motivated. Olivia is also very flexible which I was extremely thankful for! Just before the day of the exam she made time for me to go and see her. She took the time on her weekends to message me exam questions to write about and would respond instantly to any questions I had. As a whole, I thought I wasn’t going to pass English and after only 6 weeks of tutoring I felt confident because she prepared me for any question to write about. I recommend Olivia to anyone, she is extremely knowledgeable, motivational, fun and a caring person who will adapt to your learning goals and needs.
