About
===== About Me =====
Hi, I'm Rowan, a student at the University of Sydney in Engineering and Computer Science.
I have a love of learning new things, and my goal is to share that passion with my students.
Computers and Technology are my strongest areas - I've loved them since I was a kid, and have lots of experience. I've been programming since 2018 across numerous languages (Rust, C, Java, Python, JavaScript, MATLAB and more).
I'm also very interested in other areas like maths and physics, which often leads me down some truly interesting rabbit holes. Case in point: I am currently building a path-tracer, which combines maths (for geometry), physics (for light interactions) and programming (for writing it).
I've always been inclined towards teaching others; in high school I organised group study sessions across several STEM subjects, as well as helping fellow classmates with assignments. I have also helped friends during university, in some of the most infamously difficult computer science units (INFO1910, COMP2017). Both my parents have been teachers for decades, which has also taught me a lot about teaching.

===== My Tutoring =====
I'm really passionate about what I learn, and I want to share that with others - tutoring isn't just a job for me, it's fun. Feel free to ask me questions at any time (text, email, etc) and I'll be glad to answer them - that's what I'm here for. I aim to teach students in a way that's interesting to them and what they want to learn, incentivising them to learn because they actively want to.
My approach involves starting from the very basics, giving students a very firm foundation with lots of background knowledge, building up from there. I believe it's important not just to teach students to memorise a formula, but intuitively understand how and why it works, which greatly increases comprehension. I do this by breaking down problems into extremely detailed yet understandable chunks, with great real-world examples and analogies, to help everything "click" into place.
I'm available online and in-person, with a preference for face-to-face, since I find that it provides a better learning experience. I am flexible with regards to time and platform used.
