About

Hello! My name is Charlene Cloud Tan, you can call me Cloud. I'm currently in my first year of university, studying a Bachelor of Music (majoring in Composition) at the Queensland Conservatorium, Griffith University. I graduated from the School of the Arts, Singapore in 2023, having enrolled in the International Baccalaureate Career-related Programme (IBCP) from 2022-2023. I primarily compose, but I'm also trained in classical voice, oud and drums! My best subjects in high school were Music, Chinese and Social and Cultural Anthropology (SCA). Mandarin Chinese is my second language, with English being my first; and I studied anthropology because I want to be an ethnomusicologist. For the November 2023 IB examinations, I received a 7 for Standard Level Chinese B, and 6 for both Higher Level Music and Standard Level SCA. My teaching style hinges on getting to know my tutees' personalities, hobbies and learning styles, for I tutor better when I establish connections with the people I'm tutoring. I don't know everything there is to know, so I would like to think of myself as more of your guide than a teacher – a helping hand for you to grasp concepts better, instead of someone who knows the answers to everything. I am a big fan of hands-on learning as well, so I highly encourage storytelling and drawing, and subject-specific outings, if willing. I have always believed that engaging with educational material creatively can bring about greater understanding, with more fun to boot! As mentioned, I will be here to help you grasp concepts with more ease by finding smoother methods and pathways for you to learn. In my time in school, memorising details was very difficult for me, so I found myself coming up with acronyms, mnemonics and parodies of pop songs to help myself retain information, because that was how I learned best. I can help you by understanding how you learn best, so that we can derive as much enjoyment as possible from learning. If you are a neurodivergent student, I find this very important to discuss with you as well – I am here to assist you! Thank you for reading my profile, and if you are interested in my tutoring, I hope to see you soon.

Charlene Cloud Tan is patient, understanding and encouraging. The manner in which they speak is clear, and they always prioritise the learner's styles in their explanations. I find that they take the time to meet me where I am at, not assuming any prerequisites and being very inclusive about their approach to knowledge. Whenever they have a new interest or discover a fun fact, they share it with others passionately, but still making sure the information is digestible no matter the knowledge level of the receiver. I fully believe they make for a confident teacher able to customise the lesson to the learner's needs.
