I graduated from Parramatta Marist in 2023 with an ATAR of 99.80, and I am currently pursuing a double degree of Actuarial Studies and Commerce at UNSW. I work as a tutor at Zhang's HSC, which primarily focuses on science and maths, but I also want to use this platform to help students with HSC English, a subject which many people find notoriously difficult (myself included). 🗣️We all know the reputation and stigma surrounding English: “It's hard, it's boring, and you have to be naturally smart in order to succeed in it.” 🗣️ However, as someone that went from being ranked in the top 30s in Year 11 English to an internal rank of 2nd in Year 12, I can tell you from personal experience that it is not the case! With the correct approach, it is my belief that anyone can get a band 6 in English, regardless of their natural comprehension and literacy skills. Most students are taught HOW to write a good essay, however, this is only half the equation. I believe in not only teaching students how to write a quality essay, but also in learning to adapt their essays to a variety of questions, especially ones that are unique and unorthodox. Furthermore, another common problem is with students trying to finish the exam on time. This is understandable, as I have never heard of a single student who has finished an English paper with time to spare.
