About

ATAR: 99.65 | 400/400 marks on Internal Assessment | 3 QCAA Subject Awards Hi! I’m Jim, and I’m a 2023 graduate of Brisbane State High School. I am a recipient of the UQ Excellence Scholarship, and I am currently completing a Bachelor’s Degree in Advanced Finance and Economics at the University of Queensland. I absolutely love physics, mathematics, and data analytics, and I plan on completing my degree and working in quantitative finance roles, hopefully involving lots of maths! I was one of 40 students in Queensland to receive the QCAA Distinguished Academic Achiever Award. I also achieved 100% (All 400/400 marks) on internal assessment, and at Brisbane State High School, I received the Brisbane State High School subject awards for the highest achieving student in each Literature, Philosophy, Spanish, and Engineering. I received the QCAA subject awards for the highest performing student in Queensland for Literature, Philosophy, and Spanish. I received an award from BSHS for being in the Top 10 students out of the whole 2023 Grade 12 cohort of 500+ students. High School Subjects and Results Mathematical Methods: 99% - 50/50 internal assessment - 49/50 external exam Physics: 99% - 50/50 internal assessment - 49/50 external exam Literature: 100% - 75/75 internal assessment - 25/25 external exam Philosophy and Reason: 99% - 75/75 internal assessment - 24/25 external exam Engineering: 97% - 75/75 internal assessment - 22/25 external exam Spanish: 97% - 75/75 internal assessment - 22/25 external exam Employment: I have been a part-time tutor for two years, and a volunteer tutor through my high school’s program “Peers for Academic Success”. My previous work experience involves two years as a children’s learn-to-swim swimming instructor, and three years as a debating adjudicator for the Queensland Debating Union. In high school, I received a Certificate II in Active Volunteering for volunteering as a debating coach for a grade 7 team, and a volleyball coach for a grade 10 team. I own a specialised small business which sees 100+ customers per month, for which I have been acknowledged in a postdoctoral study conducted by Harvard University and a PHD thesis from a University of Sydney researcher. Skills: I believe that I would be particularly helpful for students in their final years at Brisbane State High School, but I am available for all students at all schools. I would be very happy to tutor in any of the subjects I took in Grade 12 (Maths Methods, Physics, Engineering, Philosophy, Literature/English, Spanish). I would be most suitable to tutor STEM (Maths, Physics, Engineering) from Grades 10-12, however, I can tutor Grades 9 and below for an increasingly lower rate. I can also tutor Literature/English and Philosophy, for which I can offer proofreading, assignment feedback and modification, explaining key concepts, creative writing, and assisting with internal/external exam preparation. I am fluent in Fusion 360 CAD software and proficient in the coding language Python for data analytics applications. I have access to dozens of third-party PDF practice external exams and textbooks for my subjects, as well as all of my old notes and full-mark assignments. I am also available to discuss career pathways with students, as well as which subjects they should take in order to achieve certain academic results or entry into certain undergraduate degrees. I am happy to meet with students at any convenient location.
