This establishes a base of knowledge that students can build on as they tackle the many permutations of question types they encounter. It also ensures that students, comparative to their peers, are more prepared to solve completely novel questions thrown at them in exams. This in my experience is the main differentiating factor between the top students and those above average. I also try to create an attitude of continuous improvement, motivating students to constantly challenge themselves by not only focusing on weaker areas but also by exploring the difficult questions in topics they have gained a mastery in. This is because I personally believe that there is always something to improve in. Such an attitude is essential especially now with the plethora of resources available to students and the subsequent increase in competitiveness.
