About

As a student who undertook high level math classes throughout my entire schooling journey, and am continuing now through my mechanical engineering degree, I have had experience with several teaching styles and have learnt what works best for me. I am a big believer that 1-to-1 learning is much more effective than group classes as many students feel less afraid to ask questions and therefore more willing to learn. This allows them to absorb more content and develop a substantial understanding. My belief is that grasping concepts is much more important than memorizing formulas, and consequently I spend additional time making sure you understand WHY the solution is applicable, not just HOW to answer the question. As students move into more math heavy classes, more formulas will appear and memorisation alone will not be enough, especially in physics. My best subjects were always maths and physics, achieving grades in the A band throughout my Schooling. In Year 12, I undertook Mathematical Methods and Specialist Mathematics. In Methods, I achieved the highest grade in my class, with several 100% marks on tests. Specialist Maths required more effort but was also more rewarding. The topics covered were a little more advanced, but once a solid basis was developed, each A grade I received felt like a validation of the effort I had put into understanding each concept. Physics is a different kind of subject. Although it is math-based, it also requires initiative. Tests were mostly constructed from worded problems where the information had to be extracted and then applied. These kinds of questions require a level of critical thinking that math did not. Although different, I do believe 1-to-1 tuition is still the best way to learn and clarify physics concepts. As your tutor, not only will I explain the concepts to you so that you have a thorough understanding, but I will also explain my approach to different problems, and what steps I take to arrive at my answer.
