About

SYDNEY GRAMMAR SCHOOL | USYD SCIENCE/ENG + STUDENT JOURNALIST/SECRETARY + REPRESENTATIVE BASKETBALL | PHYSICS/MATHS/ENGLISH TUTORING - WHAT ARE YOUR PERSONAL GOALS? HOW DO YOU LOVE TO LEARN? Hey, I'm Oscar! With a passion for Mathematics, Sciences and the Humanities, I achieved Band 6 in all subjects during high school, earning an All-Rounder Award with a 98.55 ATAR from Sydney Grammar School, in addition to High Distinction averages in my Maths and Physics Uni exams. Currently, I'm pursuing a double degree in Biomedical Engineering (Honours) and Psychology as a DALYELL Scholar at the University of Sydney (also being a 1st-year lead on the Student-Staff Committee and writing for Honi Soit, Usyd's student newspaper). I am currently tutoring several Year 11 and 12 HSC students, and have been doing so for one year. I love learning and sharing knowledge. I have personally organised and MC'ed the inaugural 'Fight Club' in my Dalyell Committee, a student-led debate on AI, and I try to integrate productive learning into all my hobbies, surrounding myself with opportunities to grow. My aim is to guide students to succeed in Science, Maths and Humanities by delving deeply into the fundamentals that lie behind complex problems. In my tutoring sessions, I focus on academic as well as all-round well-being. I teach students to handle unexpected exam challenges by building resilience and mental sharpness. Success and enjoyment go hand-in-hand in academics, and I strive to make learning an enjoyable experience. A popular service of mine is Maths and Physics tutoring, subjects on which I've been offered to tutor at University of Sydney too! Another is English tutoring, where I am comfortable and also experienced in taking students who have STEM-type brains and applying their thinking style to loving Humanities. We can find links between these subjects through the logic they use, and this has provided an enriching education for many. Though I am also experienced in teaching the STEM subjects and love Physics (currently achieving a HD mark in my degree's Physics unit), I find we can make even more progress in many areas of English. What inspired my passion for tutoring was helping a friend, an ESL student, achieve Band 6 in English Advanced. Helping others reach their full potential is what makes tutoring so fulfilling for me. I'm excited to share my passion and facilitate your academic journey =D

Reviews

I began tutoring English with Oscar in preparation for my trials and HSC exams at the beginning of year 12. I absolutely dreaded English (as most students do). At the end of the year I ranked 7th of 100+ students. I can confidently say that Oscar might be the only person who can make a student actually thoroughly enjoy learning Shakespeare... and having recently sat the HSC himself I felt he could always provide some great insight to what I was learning. While he's very capable academically, I honestly felt that his personable approach to learning made everything so much more approachable. He explained everything as if I were his friend, not customer - which meant that he really listened to anything I had to say (including any stupid questions) and always explained in a thoughtful way. I really could not recommend him enough - Especially for English!!

Oscar has been a great tutor for me during the past three terms and I would highly recommend him. Before I started tutoring with Oscar I was always struggling to get over 80% just falling short in math. At the start of year 11 I began doing 2 hours a week with Oscar for extension 1 math. He taught me the most effective methods for solving a large variety of math problems. Whenever I was struggling when I was studying at home I’d text him the question and he was always happy to help. He’d more than often respond on the same day. For my preliminary exams for year 11 I was very happy with my results scoring in top 10 in the year for both advanced and extensions math. I was able to be accepted into extension 2 math which had been a goal of mine throughout the year. I’d highly recommend Oscar for all levels of math physics and English he is very thorough and had a deep understanding of the subjects.

Down to earth and well-planned. Always has direction for lessons and thorough content knowledge on the English HSC course. Straightforward feedback and genuinely wants you to succeed. Would recommend.

Oscar has been an outstanding tutor for Math Extension 1 and Math Advanced. He truly cares about student feedback and is always willing to help with any questions. After lessons, he is consistent with sending notes from the lesson followed by websites and YouTube videos that link to the lesson to further extend your knowledge on the concept. I would highly recommend!

Oscar has deep, up to date subject knowledge to arm his students for success. He goes above and beyond in his own time to ensure his students have the right tools and resources to achieve academic results. Oscar stands out from other tutors, applying his interest in psychology and his excellent EQ to adapt his style to the mindset of his students. He uniquely focuses on how his students individually think, learn and respond to create motivating learning experiences. Specifically his approach allows his students to achieve the right balance for the many demands they face and therefore are more resilient and effective in applying their knowledge, which is the key to achieve results and goal. This makes Oscar a terrific and unique tutor!

Oscar’s been tutoring me for 3 months on maths and physics and there hasn’t been a question he hasn’t been able to answer. He explains difficult concepts very clearly both online and in person. His also happy to answer questions over the phone. I usually have a 2 hour session with him every week and that’s enough time to go through and understand all the questions and concepts I’m struggling with throughout the week. His saved me a lot of time studying at home and I’d highly recommend him.
