About

I am a current Year 12 English teacher with several years' experience as an VCE English examiner. Other subjects taught include English and elective Creative Writing subjects ranging from Years 7 to 12, as well as my school's high achievers program. My teaching is underpinned by a strong belief in students' capacity to improve through three fundamental aspects of teaching: - explicit teaching of reading and writing skills - cultivation of deep knowledge about texts and language - targeted feedback on student writing This has supported students to attain 40+ scores and subject excellence awards, and to gain entry into their desired tertiary pathways. My classroom practice has been further enhanced by my experiences as a VCE examiner, which have given me invaluable insight into what is required to achieve top marks. However, it also means I have a strong understanding of what students need to do to turn a 6/10 into a 7/10, and then, hopefully, an 8/10. For many students, success at VCE is about getting the best score *they* can possibly get, even if that is not the highest score in the state. I have also been the Head of Literacy at a large public secondary school in Melbourne's south-east since 2019. In this role, I currently train teachers from all subjects about the ways in which they can support students to read and write in various subjects classes, ranging from Year 5 to Year 12. It further entails working closely with preparing students for NAPLAN and senior examinations. I have also worked at the University of Melbourne as a tutor for the literacy subjects offered as part of their postgraduate teaching courses. As a tutor, I aim to provide families and students with: - An immense depth of professional knowledge - Goal-setting and coaching skills to support students with their studies - Teaching activities that will explicitly develop students' skills - High-quality resources honed through years of experience - Sample essays to guide students' writing - Quality, targeted feedback on student writing I am available to anyone in Melbourne's south-eastern suburbs, including the Mornington Peninsula and Cardinia. Rates negotiable depending on year level and format. Please get in touch to discuss availability.
