My name is Lachlan and I am a HSC Distinguished Achiever graduate from Normanhurst Boys High School in 2023. Currently, I am studying a Bachelor of Advanced Computer Science (Honours) at The University of New South Wales. I am currently tutoring Year 9 and 10 students from high-achieving selective high schools. I am offering mathematics help to Year 7-12 students. Due to the changes in 2020 regarding the Mathematics syllabus, I have compiled questions sorted by topic ranging from typical textbook questions to various selective school papers and even mathematics competitions for my own learning and exam preparation. Having a strong foundation is crucial in Mathematics, especially when schools try to rush content without actively teaching students. I am eager to pass on my wisdom and enthusiasm for Mathematics to help my students understand the underlying concepts behind letters and numbers. For example, when I first learned trigonometry in Year 9, the mnemonic ratios SOH CAH TOA was one of the first things I encountered. Although I understood the ratios, they lacked meaning. What was sinθ? What was cosθ? Why does sinθ/cosθ = tanθ? Having learnt coordinate geometry in previous years, the unit circle was the stepping stone that made trigonometry crystal clear. Understanding such intricacies in mathematics is principal to acing the final exam questions that are often unexpectedly difficult to grasp. Under my guidance, students will come to realise the interrelationships between the different avenues of mathematics and studying no longer becomes a chore but develops into something enjoyable. They will gain confidence in the areas they are weak in and flourish in the areas they excel in.
