Chemistry in Year 11: Textbooks filled with concepts that I didn't get; exams never went as I wanted them to be. I often panicked, seeing the page filled with ideas that still felt foreign after studying - and so I would end up with marks I was never truly happy with.
I was handed back my prelim chemistry test. Sitting in the staff common room, filled with nervousness, my fingers slowly unveiled a 49/70. With that, my rank for the year fell into the 50's. Seeing crosses stamped on top of my calculations, lines drawn through my explanations, all I could think was: โHow could this have happened? Am I really choosing the right subject?".
But with a change of mindset, and a little help from a tutor, in a year I came to love the subject, looked forward to every class and started marveling at the ideas that chemistry enabled us to understand. It culminated with a rank of 10th in my trials for chemistry and a fourth overall rank in physics - something I'd never thought would happen just a year ago.

Every week, we give very tough, exam styled questions as homework. This made Rei Loh, James Ruse, more confident and accurate in exams, which brought him up from 79% to 94% in Chemistry.

Often students do get lost in group lessons. This happens when the tutor doesnโt care.

Thereโs a lot of tutors out there. But how many of them have topped NSW? Not all of them know statistical analysis and vectors like I do. Or how to explain it to get the "Aha!" moment.
