About

2024 intake is now FULL but please feel free to contact me if you have any questions! Hi!! I’m Alivia Chan, a 2023 graduate of Baulkham Hills High School with a 99.50 ATAR. Having navigated the rigorous HSC experience initially without much guidance, I am privileged to now be in a position to offer you support in achieving your goals! With over 6 years of diverse experiences – from 1-on-1 private tutoring to classroom teaching at some of Sydney’s best tutoring centres – I understand that tutoring doesn’t follow a 'one size fits all' approach. I specialise in simplifying complex syllabus content through flowcharts and summaries. My aim is not just comprehension but also to spark a deeper curiosity in the subject as a field of study. MATHS Before Year 12, I had never undergone any math tutoring. Initially, I feared failure in my HSC Maths because everyone appeared so advanced, well-versed in all topics well before I began taking the HSC seriously! However, I developed an efficient preparation method for HSC Maths, resulting in achieving 100% in several math exams and ultimately securing a perfect score in my HSC exam! In my teaching, I focus on delivering content concisely and simply, ensuring strong foundational understanding so you can confidently tackle ANY challenging problems. Additionally, I've curated numerous practice questions to bolster your confidence in every topic! CHEMISTRY I. Love. Chemistry. And I'm eager to share my passion with all of you. I want to emphasize—I'm not one of those naturally gifted, privileged students with photographic memory. Instead, I've developed an efficient study method through collaboration with top tutors in NSW. This approach led me to achieve 2nd place in my Chemistry Trials exam and a band 6 in my HSC exam. My experience teaching students from diverse backgrounds has equipped me to deliver both Preliminary and HSC content concisely. I specialise in using flowcharts and diagrams to seamlessly link theoretical and practical aspects, making the content more accessible. Additionally, I've curated a wide range of Chemistry questions, covering simple conceptual topics to challenging Olympiad-level content. My aim is to help you understand the HSC syllabus effortlessly while fostering a deeper appreciation for Chemistry beyond it being just another HSC subject :D JAPANESE CONTINUERS Fun fact: I had initially planned to drop Japanese in Year 11, but fortunately, I decided against it. Despite the disruptions caused by COVID that limited many cultural immersion experiences, I found an effective way to study Japanese, which I can sum up in one word: Practice. Admittedly, it can be quite challenging when it's not your first language, but that's alright. I've compiled a question bank of over 200 HSC speaking questions (along with actual mock speaking practices) and offer comprehensive guidance for all components, including Listening, Reading, and Responding Parts A and B. While it might be considered a niche HSC subject compared to STEM and HSIE subjects, with the right guidance, you can certainly excel in Japanese Continuers :) ENGLISH ADVANCED I used to be terrible at English. It wasn't because I didn’t enjoy it—English was honestly super fun. Nor was it because English is my 4th language. Rather, I felt so helpless with limited to no guidance, and so, I hated writing essays. I just didn’t know how to write them. However, after receiving some help and developing my own personal writing style, I achieved an HSC external mark of 97/100 (which I did not expect). I'd love to guide you through your English HSC journey, from grasping the basic foundation and context of your prescribed texts to refining your essays, ensuring you're fully prepared to tackle the daunting combination of HSC Paper 1 and Paper 2! I have a collection of my own essays and those from other top English students across the state from the past few years. These exemplar responses all scored 20/20 either in the HSC or in trial exams. They are incredibly useful in helping you structure your own thesis and arguments! My prescribed texts were - Common Module: The Merchant of Venice - William Shakespeare - Module A: Poems of John Keats, Bright Star - Jane Campion - Module B: An Artist of the Floating World - Kazuo Ishiguro For any further questions, please feel free to contact me! I would love to have a chat with you

Alivia is a very patient and understanding tutor and helped me significantly over the past few terms. She understands maths and chemistry concepts in a very deep manner and explained them really clearly to me and was patient with me even when I struggled at first. Her observation of my strengths and weaknesses makes her teaching style and pace really suitable for me and I definitely recommend her as a tutor.
