About

‼️ 2023 #5 State Rank (NSW) HSC Japanese Beginners Achiever offering private tutoring for primary & high school students and JLPT N5-3 learners. ‼️ Currently studying a Bachelor of Arts (majoring in Japanese Studies) and a Bachelor of Laws at The University of Sydney. ‼️ Achieved Dean’s List of Excellence in Academic Performance for 2024 ‼️ Recipient of consecutive Academic Awards (2019–2023) for Languages, consistently achieving 1st or 2nd place rankings. 🌟 About me: Hi there! My name is Johie. I mainly specialise in teaching Japanese (Primary/High School, HSC Japanese Beginners and Continuers) and JLPT N5–N3 learners. As a Japanese major at university, I aspire to go beyond textbooks by combining academic insight, helpful exam strategies, and real-life language application to help students truly understand and enjoy Japanese. Throughout my own academic journey, I often wished for someone to guide me with practical tips and clear strategies to truly make a difference. Now, as a tutor, I strive to be that support for my students. I focus on simulating real exam conditions, giving targeted guidance, and offering actionable insights that help students refine their skills. Aligned with the school curriculum, my approach ensures that every lesson directly supports their classroom learning. Beyond exams, I aim to foster long-term language learning, ensuring my students gain lasting confidence and the tools they need to excel in their academic careers. Together, we focus on growth, so success becomes not just a goal, but a sustainable achievement. 🌟 Sidenote: Proficient communicator in English + capable of communicating in Korean. 🌟 What I offer: With 500+ hours of tutoring experience and over three years working in tutoring centres, I have worked with various students of different ages and academic backgrounds. Subsequently, after becoming a private tutor, I offer to bring a structured yet personalised approach to every lesson. My goal is to nurture each student’s passion for learning while building their confidence and motivation. Having excelled in languages, as reflected in my academic achievements, I’ve developed a strong understanding of effective language-learning strategies and study techniques, which I aim to pass on to my students so they can excel in their own ways. A standard session runs for approximately TWO hours per subject, allowing ample time to address specific areas of improvement. Lessons incorporate: ✅ Targeted practice – Lessons are tailored to each student’s needs, with focused support on key areas such as grammar patterns, kanji recognition, reading comprehension, listening skills, and sentence construction. ✅ Interactive activities – Engaging exercises including speaking practice, real-life dialogue simulations, reading tasks, and exam-style questions designed to consolidate knowledge and build confidence in using Japanese naturally. ✅ Regular revision – Ongoing reinforcement through weekly quizzes, structured worksheets, ensuring strong retention and exam readiness while supporting long-term Japanese language development. ✅ Exam and assessment support – I help students prepare thoroughly for exams and assessments through personalised guidance, mock exams, and targeted exercises. Lessons combine textbook study with advancing ahead of class concepts to ensure students stay on top of their schoolwork, build confidence, and approach exams fully prepared. 🚨 ADDITIONALLY: Are you interested in pursuing Law but feeling unsure about whether your ATAR will get you in? I can help! I also offer pathway advising for students aiming for a career in Law. Having successfully gained entry through an internal transfer at USYD, rather than solely relying on my HSC ATAR, I provide practical guidance on university expectations, study pathways, and strategies to prepare both academically and personally for a future in the legal field. With the right plan, entry into Law is more achievable than you might think! Feel free to send me a message to get started. I look forward to hearing from you! 一緒に頑張りましょう!🤗

Johie is an amazing and lovely teacher. Heard of her from a friend, and she has worked wonders in my journey to try to improve my studies. Lessons with her not only feel fun and engaging, but most importantly it feels like she is able to patiently understand and connect with what I truly need to do in order to improve. Her methodology and commitment is amazing. Can’t recommend her to anyone more!
