About

Hey! My name is Lachie, I'm 21 years old, and I achieved a 99.95 ATAR (IB score of 45/45) in Y12. I'm currently studying a Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Melbourne. I have a flexible, patient approach to tutoring and I'm good at approaching the same problem in different ways to suit each student best. Some interesting stuff about me - I love skiing, particularly in Thredbo, where my family spent lots of time as I was growing up. I played the piano in school, and I'm currently trying to teach myself guitar (it's proving to be a challenge). Having only recently made the move to Newcastle, I'm also trying to learn to surf (it's proving to be an even bigger challenge). I've got three younger sisters, and my dog Gus is a 3-year-old blue blue staffey who loves walks. Some boring stuff about me - I was Dux of Canberra Grammar School with a perfect ATAR (99.95), where I was also School Captain and a member of the First IV rowing squad in 2021. While I am hugely proud of my achievements, I put myself through a lot of stress in my final years of school, and have since learned how to establish a healthy balance between hard work and relaxation. I believe that this lesson is something that makes me a valuable tutor; I attempt to inspire my students to study hard-but-not-too-hard, and find enjoyment in the effort they put in. The students I've tutored have seen huge improvements over short periods of time. I'm patient and adaptable, friendly and supportive, and I really enjoy helping students to achieve their full potential. I know my stuff well, and more importantly - I love teaching it. My specialty is maths, as I'm effective at framing difficult mathematical concepts in more understandable ways. That's me! I look forward to meeting you.

Lachie worked with my year 9 son for a term on maths. He is a very personable young man that bought great energy and passion to the sessions they had together. Lachie clearly has a love of learning. My son has dysgraphia (difficulty with writing), so Lachie helped him write neat notes and summaries of the units they covered, explaining the material and working through examples together. Lachie not only caught my son up on his maths but his confidence grew immensely. He now loves maths and just got a great mark in his recent exam and received 100% effort for maths in his last report
