Hi! I'm Marcus, an enthusiastic educator with a dedicated focus on providing one-on-one tutoring to students in grades 7 through 9. Over the last three years, my expertise has been concentrated on delivering tailored support in school mathematics, fostering enrichment, and preparing students for challenging mathematical competitions, including the Maths Olympiads, ICAS assessments, and the Australian Mathematics Competition.
Currently, I'm a 100% scholarship student at Newington College, where I'm studying Year 12 Extension 1 Mathematics, further enhancing my own skills and knowledge in the subject.
In addition to my passion for mathematics, I also have a deep enthusiasm for English and Latin. I believe that cultivating a love for these subjects is just as important as excelling in them. Encouraging curiosity and exploration is a fundamental part of my teaching philosophy.
In English, I have studied in depth Shakespeare's plays such as "Much Ado About Nothing", "Romeo and Juliet", "Macbeth", "The Merchant of Venice" and "The Tempest". I have also studied film mediums including Hitchcock's "Psycho" and Ross' "Pleasantville", and literary mediums such as "Of Mice and Men", "The Lord of the Flies", "All Quiet on the Western Front", "1984", "Fahrenheit 451" and "Pride and Prejudice". In Latin, everybody enjoys the culture, but when it comes to grammar, it's altogether often too difficult. I believe, through personal experience, that with Latin, it takes dedication and perseverance to be able to understand it. But I have seen the other side, where suddenly, through grammar, I can see the culture in a sharper light, from the words of the people themselves, poets such as Horace, Virgil and Catallus. I want to share this passion with others, so that they themselves will be able to view the culture of Rome through a similar lens as I do.
When it comes to my teaching style, I believe in fostering a collaborative and interactive learning environment. I tailor my approach to each student's unique learning needs and preferences, ensuring that they not only grasp the subject matter but also develop a genuine interest in it. My mantra is that with enjoyment comes success, and I apply this principle to all subjects I teach, whether it's mathematics or English.
