Hi, I'm Dr D and I'm a currently accredited English Teacher, with a PhD in English Literature. I've been teaching this subject for over 25 years, and in a range of contexts, from TAFEs to University to High School. Over that time, I've developed rigorous methods for identifying and improving students' writing. Be it creative, critical, discursive, I've the experience and insight to diagnose and develop writing at all levels, and across different textual forms and types. I've also developed practical methods in study skills from my time as a university lecturer in that field. As a result, I have a strong focus in my tutoring on developing the insights and independence of my students. These skills are crucial in giving you the confidence to face the stressful days ahead as you near the dreaded HSC exam! In recent years I've been teaching years 9-12 English, and I've had particularly strong results across Standard and Advanced, as well as in the Extension courses. I've had my fair share of Band 6 and Band 4 (Extension) results but my proudest successes are those students I've transformed from self-described "strugglers" to confident and insightful thinkers and writers. I teach you as we determine together when you need it. If for some reason I can't help you, I will tell you straight. If you aren't working hard, I will tell you. You get the picture. Time is precious, and I don't aim to waste yours. My first consultation is online, about 20 mins long, and is free. I will assess your current writing (via your samples), reading, and general engagement with English. I will also want to know why you think a tutor is the solution!
