I am an experienced and committed teacher of VCE English, Literature and Media Studies. I have taught in a range of environments, including high-performing independent schools and smaller public schools, and am able to bring a variety of qualities to any tutoring sessions. As a teacher, I primarily focus on VCE studies; I currently teach 3/4 English and Literature, and have taught 3/4 Media Studies in the past. Additionally, I have been an assessor on the English exam for the last six years, and am able to bring clear and concrete advice regarding the type of essay that will ultimately be rewarded by VCAA. I am very confident in my ability to scaffold a student's development with this goal in mind, with a particular focus on consistent essay structure and an approach to essay questions that best allows a student to write under timed conditions. Furthermore, I am currently working as the Year 12 coordinator at my school, and have been doing so for the last five years. Consequently, I have a clear understanding of the demands of the VCE, and an interest in supporting students through a challenging year. Although of course my principal focus as a tutor is academic development, I also believe in the value of having calm and positive educational relationships that allows students to develop confidence and self-esteem, and recognise the value in their work outside any mark that might be attributed to it. I am able to meet person or online; mostly after 8pm. I am happy to be in touch with students by email between tutoring sessions in order to answer any short questions they might have, and to read any of their work.
