🔥NOW ACCEPTING STUDENTS FOR A 2024 INTAKE🔥 Hey, I'm Angus! I'm a first-year medical student with a passion for learning and a possibly unhealthy love of science. I graduated in 2022 with an ATAR of 99.45, and study scores of 50 in Biology, 47 in Chemistry, and 46 in Physics. Studying in VCE was easily the highlight of my schooling experience. Never before had I experienced the feeling of learning information that was actually interesting and relevant to the real world. However, I also noticed a common trend amongst my own cohort: students focus too heavily on facts, and forget about building a personal understanding. Anyone can memorise facts. Whether it’s through flash-cards, mnemonics, or writing something out 1000 times, facts are easy. And yet, tests still manage to separate students into a range of scores. This is the entire point of a SAC. Even though every kid in your class can regurgitate ‘the mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell,’ scores will likely still range from E’s and D’s to A+’s. It’s clear that memorisation alone isn’t enough. The missing piece, which separates high performers from the pack, is a conceptual understanding. And it’s understanding concepts where students struggle. A conceptual understanding is absolutely vital to academic performance, and the ultimate difference between high performers and the rest of the pack.
