About

Hi! My name is Laszlo Vodopivec. I am a second-year student at the Australian National University currently undertaking my Bachelor of Engineering (honours) / Bachelor of Economics degree. For High School, I attended Cranbrook Senior School, and I was part of the school's first cohort of International Baccalaureate Diploma students. At Cranbrook, I was awarded the prize of Outstanding Academic Excellence in Year 8, 10 and 12, and was fortunate enough to represent the school as a Prefect during Year 12. I am available to tutor French (all levels Years 7-12), Mathematics (Years 7-10) and IB Theory of Knowledge (all IB students). Information on my background in each of these subjects, as well as hourly rates (open to discussion), is as follows: FRENCH ($60/hr): I was born in France and moved to Sydney when I was 5 years old. My mother is French, and French is thus my most commonly spoken language at home. As such, I have native fluency in the language, which is a skill that helped me whilst completing French B SL for the International Baccalaureate Diploma programme (in which I received a 7/7 for French). As a French tutor, I would concentrate on helping my students to enjoy the language, and support the students in developing their weaknesses in a non-judgemental, fun and constructive environment. I would concentrate on perfecting the basics of writing, reading, listening and speaking, and then build on these skills in a balanced manner which allows the students to feel confident in their skills. Whilst I would follow the curriculum and work with the students to prepare for tests or assignments, I would also try and keep the students interested so they could increase their fluency in the language and feel passionate about the Francophone culture. MATHEMATICS ($55/hr): Since Year 7, maths has consistently been my favourite subject at school. This interest has manifested itself into my degree choice in University, whereby I am currently studying Mathematics and Applications 1 for my Engineering degree. In the International Baccalaureate, I completed the Analysis and Approaches Higher Level course online externally through a company called Pamoja. My experience in mathematics at school has shown me the importance of mastering the basics before moving on to more complicated topics, so I would ensure students are not overwhelmed when moving on to more challenging topics. As a mathematics tutor, I would adapt to the student's need, focussing on slowly developing skills by carefully explaining a topic, demonstrating how to solve some problems and guiding the students while solving problem's by themselves. I would identify the student's strengths as well as areas for improvement, and help the students find joy in the subject. IB THEORY OF KNOWLEDGE ($50/hr for TOK exhibition help, $70/hr for TOK essay help): For the IB, I achieved the maximum grade of an 'A' in Theory of Knowledge (TOK), which was assessed from a combination of my TOK Exhibition and my TOK Essay. I found both of these assignments highly enjoyable, as they allowed me to explore epistemological questions in a personally meaningful manner. As such, I am available to provide constructive feedback on any TOK assessment related work. (Disclaimer: I can only provide feedback, and am unable to edit or modify any drafts submitted. Instead, I would help students to better develop their ideas, and highlight specific areas for improvement within their written work. This feedback could both be written or verbally communicated, depending upon the student's preference).

Laszlo is a personable, intelligent and approachable young man who consistently achieved well in all aspects of my course. He was diligent and hardworking which, as a consequence, means he has a deep grasp on the content, concepts and grammar of French. I know that Laszlo also approached his other subjects with similar aplomb and so I have no hesitation in recommending him as a tutor.
