About

⭐USyd MED⭐99.50 (Baulko 2020)⭐98 UCAT (🎁760VR) ⭐94 BIO + PHYSICS ⭐100th GAMSAT (82) Hi, I'm Max. I graduated from Baulko in 2020 with multiple medicine and dentistry offers and I am currently in my 3rd year of BSci/MD at UQ, going into medicine at the University of Sydney next year. I have 4 years of experience in both 1-to-1 and group tutoring preliminary + HSC science, mathematics, english and UCAT. As such, I am able to adapt to each student's needs, regardless of their level. Recently, I have taken the GAMSAT and have achieved well into the 100th percentile in each of the 3 sections, earning a 100th percentile score overall. I am happy to mark questions / answer questions (general or subject related) throughout the week and strive to be responsive with all correspondence. 🩺 UCAT and Medicine entrance ⚕️: The UCAT is almost universally dreaded amongst medicial student prospects owing to its importance in medical school admissions, and its unique format. A good UCAT will offer multiple interviews to universities across Australia without even needing the high ATAR usually associated with medicine. I focus on strengthening the underlying skills that are required to do well in the UCAT, as this is the most consistent method of improving your scores over time. In our lessons we go over questions which you have struggled with, retool and optimise the approach, and put it into practice with more questions. At the end of each lesson, I provide routines which focus on underlying skills to be practiced throughout the week. I focus on consistency in all sections and recommend that extra time is allocated to each student's weakest section. In particular, I specialise in verbal reasoning (with a score of well into the 99th percentile), which is considered to be the hardest subsection in the UCAT by far, and the hardest to improve on. It requires very strong fundamental skills which need to be consistently nurtured. In the past few years, it has consistently had (by far) both the lowest average and standard deviation of all subsections. However, this means that a good VR score, in addition to securing you a WSU interview, will easily add 100+ points to your total UCAT. Additionally, I am very familar and up-to-date with the confusing and convoluted world of medical school admissions. Therefore, I can provide accurate information and advice every step of the way and ensure that you don't miss any potential spots. 🧪 Biology + Physics ⚛️: In high school, physics and biology were my favourite subjects by far and I have performed at a high level consistently. I am genuinely very passionate about the subjects and focus on understanding, rather than memorisation in my lessons. Additionally, I place a huge emphais on how to answer questions effectively and a from-basics approach so you can consistently perform at your best in exams. This is especially important since the new syllabus places a much greater emphasis on understanding rather than formula-bashing. During our lessons, I first go over questions and exams that you have done, marking them at a HSC level with reasoning and feedback. Then, we go through content at your own pace with a special focus on understanding all concepts. During exam or assignment season, the lesson is personalised to the content that will appear, and additional emphasis is placed on exam technique and practice questions. 📚 English ✏️: Love it or hate it, english remains as the only compulsory subject in year 12. You must be good at it to maximise your ATAR, simple as that. Throughout most of junior high school, I had been mediocre at english and treated the subject as a secondary concern. Then in year 11, I changed my approach and ended up with a 92 internal and 94 external score in the HSC. Recently, in the GAMSAT, I achieved a score of 79 in S2 which involves writing 2 essays, putting me well into the 100th percentile of university students aiming to do medicine. In doing so, I scored above the vast majority of university students studying humanities courses. What did I change? I didn't learn fancy vocabulary or prose, I didn't memorise quotes and essays. I simply took a logical approach and worked on constructing cohesive arguments with efficient, yet engaging wording. Now, I aim to teach students these same fundamental skills so they can perform consistently on a high level regardless of the text or type of exam. In our lessons, we go over your essays, and practice writing new ones, as well as textual analysis to strengthen skills and to improve marks. 💊 GAMSAT 🏥: I am new to GAMSAT tutoring, having just recently recieved my results, however I believe that my skills and experience in teaching transfers over. I have recently achieved a spectacular and hyper-consistent score with a split of 81 in Section I, 79 in Section II, and 83 in Section III to give me 82 overall. Scores for each individual section are well into the 100th percentile. For all sections, I believe that my score is a result of strong fundamental skills: For section II, I did not write with any complex vocabulary or quotes; for section III, I exclusively focused on having a logical approach. ✔️ I currently offer online tutoring ✔️: - 1-on-1 tutoring for $65/hr - Group tutoring for $40/hr for groups of 3, and $50/hr for groups of 2.
