About
Hi, my name is Tara, and I am a 2024 graduate from Pymble Ladies' College. I am currently studying a Bachelor of Engineering Honours (Civil Engineering) and Design in Architecture at the University of Sydney.
I completed four units of HSC English (English Adv., English Ext. 1 and English Ext. 2), as well as four units of HSC Mathematics (Maths Ext. 1 and Maths Ext. 2) and achieved the highest band for each of these subjects, and an ATAR of 97.55. Having recently graduated, I am familiar with the NESA syllabus for English and Mathematics, and I can provide detailed insights to help increase your confidence and abilities.
In the past year, I have tutored several students from Year 8 to Year 12. As a tutor, I tailor my approach to my students' requirements, learning styles, and subjects.
To succeed in Maths, I believe that understanding foundational concepts leads to a strengthened approach to exam questions, and providing a guiding hand encourages my students to reach a correct answer themselves. I have seen in previous students that learning to break down a question into manageable steps has allowed for maximum marks.
To succeed in English, students require fundamental skills such as concise essay writing, quote analysis, and the ability to give literary weight to their own thought process. As I have gleaned from my own experiences, in the HSC, these skills, as well as a deep consideration of the NESA rubric allows students to achieve top marks and improve rapidly.
English Texts:
HSC Advanced: Looking for Richard/Richard III, selected T.S. Eliot poems, 1984.
HSC Ext. 1: Waiting for Godot, selected Seamus Heaney poems, Frankenstein.
Y11 Ext. 1: Jane Eyre, Wide Sargasso Sea.
If you are an HSC English Ext. 2 student, I would be happy to provide a fresh pair of eyes for your Major Work or assessments and provide feedback. I completed a short story.
As a tutor, I like to have the student guide the lesson in terms of topics and questions to optimise the session for the student's needs and allow them to have agency in their own academic journey. I consistently check if students have understood the topic, and I am patient, allowing everyone to learn at their own pace. I provide free marking and feedback outside of lessons.
I can do online lessons or in-person lessons at either Hornsby or Gordon Library.
