About

Hi, I’m Flynn an experienced tutor with over a year's expereince and a 99.4 ATAR: •97 Mod Hist •96 Eng Adv •96 Eng Ext 1 •96 Legal •94 French Cont.s •HSC All-Rounder 2022 •UTS Online accreditation in Tutoring in Higher Education •Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) certification For Year 11 and 12, it's difficult not to feel overwhelmed looking at this website with 99's and STATE RANK's leaping out of every profile. Even the HSC behind me, I get a familiar lurch of panic when I see them and think “do I really have to try and pull that off?”. But in truth, there's an aura of hype to the HSC that simply isn’t justified and does more harm than good in making the possible seem impossible. With a 99.4 ATAR and formal credentials in teaching methodology, I’ve got buckets of insider knowledge to share and I’d love to help you do more than you think you’re capable of. Consolidating class teaching, going above & beyond classwork (the extra mile is HSC gold), crafting responses for assignments, reviewing drafted responses and critical feedback sessions are all fantastic ways I can help you level up your marks. I can also help with stress management, time allocation, study accountability and goal-setting. From experience I can say that having an outside perspective to help you proactively identify your medals and missions sets the foundations for better learning. Each lesson also includes a structured lesson plan tailored to you (accessible on Google Drive), so you can easily keep track of your progress and goals. With the right tips, strategies and approaches, you can make the HSC yours for the taking. If you have any questions or would like some more info, feel free to send a message. I'm currently studying a Bachelor of International Relations and Arts (Political Science) at the Australian National University If you’re interested in how I can help subject-by-subject, read on… ► English Advanced + Std English is the subject that the majority of students find the most challenging, mysterious and inaccessible. A lot of the time, it seems like English teachers keep a very long and very specific secret list of marking criteria hidden in the back of their minds – only sharing it with students in brief “I told you so” moments after giving assessments back. In English, there is no one size fits all solution or easy way out, but with a mark of 96 in both Advanced and Extension 1 I can help you make sense of the HSC’s most confounding subject. For English especially, I look to take a dynamic and layered approach to syllabus outcomes and rubrics, because the simple JUDGEMENT + QUESTION WORDING formula often prices you out of the higher mark ranges. With the aid of my extensive study notes, quote banks and exemplars, I’ll help you refine your critical agility and strategic analysis skills to become the English all-rounder who embraces tricky questions and sophisticated syntax like a pro. ► Modern History Modern History can easily be a daunting subject. It can be difficult to avoid the “narrative style” essay that fuels the angry rants of many history teachers - and that’s without even mentioning the avalanche of statistics, dates and names to get buried under. Synthesis, inference and interpretation are key skills that I can help you develop, drawing on the extensive notes, study resources and shortcuts that got me a 99 and #1 in school internal and 97 scaled ovr. ►Legal Studies Legal Studies is a subject where going the extra mile is 100% worth it, but knowing where or how to start seems near impossible. As a subject, it’s a lot about structure, making it pretty inaccessible from the outside in. But in going over essay techniques, drafting, (interesting) case studies and the shortcuts that got me a 99 internal and 96 scaled ovr, you’ll find this structure is actually a big advantage. Plus, I’ve got tonnes of laws, case studies and crazy detailed notes and resources to help you gain confidence in your Legal writing and analysis abilities. I really enjoyed Legal, and still see SMH articles that I instinctively earmark for essays, so I’d be super happy to help in finding and analysing the perfect contemporary issues for your responses. Whilst Matrix and Art of Smart might try and sell R v Gittany as your golden ticket for every single crime syllabus point, I’ve well and truly got the tools to help you rescue the markers from the excruciating boredom of seeing the same IDMLCs over and over again – coincidentally ensuring a great mark in legal. ►French Beginners Beginners language courses get a reputation as an easy way out, a throwaway subject. Au contraire, the opposite is actually true. You cover a lot of ground in a short space of time, which inevitably means hurrying to fill in the gaps yourself. Being in the dark about a foreign language with multiple other subjects à gérer is no easy tâche, but I can help you navigate your way to a top-draw mark. Ce n’est pas la fin des haricots if you don’t a French-speaking background to help you out: succeeding in French Beginners is more about being strategic than being… well… French. I’m happy to help along all four areas: reading, writing, reading and listening; covering simple mark winners and shortcuts like rollicking colloquialisms, les connecteurs, impressive tenses, si clauses and le subjonctif - mais c’est votre choix. Lessons are tailored to your goals and I’ve got un tas de tips and resources to share!
