About
Hi there!
My name is Jonathan, a 2019 graduate from James Ruse Agricultural High School. I’m currently offering tutoring for Maths, Sciences (Junior Science, Senior Chemistry, Senior Physics), and Medicine Entry for high school students and graduates of all years. My services are offered both online and in-person (area dependent)!
Throughout my years in high school, I’ve realized that not many students, including myself initially, really understand how to study. Everyone knows what to study and why they need to, but upon realizing the method behind study is infinitely more important than the amount of study we do. What sets apart my teaching from others is that I won’t spend time pretending that everything is about hard work and putting in hours and hours of study. Yes, we cannot escape the importance of dedication and grit, however I pride myself in thinking that my students are those who learn to study smart, understand the most important and key points of each topic, and understand how to balance their time and efforts. Together we will pick apart the syllabus and content to decipher how we can best prepare you for your upcoming assessments. This is especially important when tackling the new skills-based and understanding-heavy new syllabus.
I’ve tutored over a hundred students in the past both in private, group, or class settings, and they have all been extremely satisfied with the methods I’ve preached. I’ve had the honor of mentoring and tutoring state rankers, First in Subject achievers, and 99.95 atar achievers. We all have different learning styles and methods, and it’s my mission to help each and every one of my students find what works best for them, to unlock their full potentials.
An example of a structured lesson with me is as follows:
We’ll firstly discuss any content that requires revision from our previous lesson, to ensure that we are prepared for the new content we will learn this lesson. We will then work through the prepared material I will have ready, allowing time for note-taking and questions throughout. I am a firm believer in using our short time together wisely, and do not support using our tutoring time to independently solve questions. Question solving time will be limited, as that is definitely something you can do after our lesson, though I highly encourage bringing in questions that you find difficult. Homework will be given at the end of each lesson, and I will mark it at a time outside of our lesson time. You will also receive a document of notes from each lesson, which covers the key points of the day.
For those of you who need a bit of motivation studying throughout the week, I will also provide study plans and schedules with guaranteed success if followed correctly. These plans have helped both myself and my previous students achieve great results, in the most efficient way possible.
Of course, flexibility is extremely important. If you have exams coming up, I am more than prepared to bombard you with exam technique tips, past papers from every high school you can think of in NSW, and stories (and lessons) from my own exam taking experiences. We can shift and adjust our lessons to best suit your present needs, without losing track of our long term goal, which we will agree upon and work towards from lesson 1.
So where has all of this led me? Currently, I’m studying the Doctor of Medicine course at WSU and will be entering Year 3 in 2023. The techniques I’ve outlined and used above have landed me medical school offers across Australia, as well as job offers from many major educational facilities. I’ve received a UCAT score in the top percentile and an ATAR result I could only dream of achieving when I first started high school.
I’ve been through high school and I know it can be confusing, difficult, and at times, extremely stressful. However, it doesn’t have to be like that. Let me be the one to help you unlock your full potential.
