The point of a tutor is to help consolidate it – that’s where I can help. I graduated in 2022 with great marks, but my marks alone aren’t what makes me a great tutor. I’m patient, and I’m a listener. I care about my students truly understanding new concepts, because that's what gets results (plus, it makes learning more interesting!) Most of all, I want my students to be as excited as I am about the subjects they study: maths and French are actually awesome :) As a senior leader in cadets, I learned educational theory, and I’ve had plenty of practice too – in the classroom, and one-on-one with students. I’m ready to adapt to suit your needs and learning style, because I know that everybody’s different and that’s alright. By the way, I’ll always be there during the week for a quick question if you need me! No point waiting a whole week to ask. ———————— MATHS Maths is more than memorisation. It’s easy to think that the key to maths is just memorising: formulas, methods, rules... But maths isn't just a set of magic tricks. To avoid silly mistakes and to have a chance at getting the harder questions, you need to understand not just the WHAT and the HOW but also the WHY. With that in mind, the core of my maths tutoring is revising the theory behind the topics. That means knowing where the quadratic formula and derivation actually come from, instead of just being able to "do" them. Difficult questions often involve generalisations of the rules you learn, so being able to apply them in specific cases is not enough. I'll also work with you to "reverse engineer" the tough questions - this will help if you've ever wondered, "but how was I supposed to think of that!?" At every step of the way, I’ll be there to make sure it all makes sense. If you ever say, “sorry, I don’t get that bit”, I will NEVER tell you “oh never mind”. Together we can take on the mathematics curriculum, whichever level you’re studying! FRENCH « Tu aimes ton école ? » « Ummm, mon école, c’est vraiment, ummm… » It’s the dreaded scenario. No one likes being lost for words in a French exam. But the problem is this: it’s impossible to get top marks in French if your only exposure to it is inside the classroom. I said it, I meant it – you need more French in your life. As your French tutor, I’ll give you more than just an hour a week of speaking, writing, reading, listening and grammar practice. I’ll give you the confidence to change your phone into French (you really can do it!) and on top of all that, I’ll show you what the HSC markers are actually looking for (because let’s be honest, are you sure about how to approach those language-and-content Qs? or those 3-mark, 2-line summary Qs? or those 15-mark Reading Responding Part B's? You get the idea – NESA doesn’t make it easy for us.) —————— Here are my regular hourly rates: Online – Y7 - Y10: $80/hr Y11 - Y12: $90/hr As I am currently living in Europe, I can only offer lessons online. Please check my availability in this listing (all shown in Sydney time!) I am unable to do morning tutoring, but with the time difference, Sydney afternoons/evenings are golden. Lessons are normally 1 hour long, but I'm flexible on duration. I’m also more than happy to discuss lessons in small groups at discounted rates.
