I’ll cut right into it, because your time is important. How passionately does your child want to study Medicine? When I first started preparing for my Y11 Preliminary and Y12 HSC exams, I believed a high ATAR was all that I needed to enter the medical course of my dreams. The result? Countless hours studying. Revising until midnight. Completing mock examination after mock examination, past papers piling up in the corner of my room. While this hard work brought me to succeed both internally (top 5 ranks in James Ruse assessment tasks) and externally (a top 0.25% ATAR in the nation), only by the middle of year 11 did I realise that current medical schools do not value one dimensional students who “only know how to study”. They value All Rounders who, while being competent in academics, have a wealth of extracurricular achievements as well as unique life experiences. 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘂𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀. So I changed my approach. I became the President of the James Ruse SRC in year 11. I became a School Prefect in year 12. I attended Yale University for a competitive summer school program. I was invited to become a public speaking ambassador for Harvard University. I volunteered in rural and homeless areas. I grew my personal educational study channel, a passion project of mine, to 1M+ views. And as I continued branching out, I found myself being nominated as a Finalist for the prestigious Australian Young Citizen of the Year award! 𝗜 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗾𝘂𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗮 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱. The result? 𝗜 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝘆 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗮𝘁 𝗨𝗡𝗦𝗪 𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 𝗰𝗼𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁. Now, I know what you’re thinking. “How did you possibly achieve all this during your final years of high school?" "How did you receive a top ATAR and a top UCAT and 9+ Medical interview offers while sacrificing the time others would use to study?" And I would always reply with the same answer. 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝘆. In my opinion, the ATAR is the easiest hurdle to overcome, and I am highly confident that as long as your child is passionate, regardless of initial skill, I can tutor them to excel in mathematics and science, achieving 95+ individual HSC scores and a high 99+ ATAR. While focusing purely on academics will compromise your child’s chances at success, rushing blindly into extracurriculars is counterproductive. This is why corresponding to your child’s dream Medical university, I will suggest cocurricular/extracurricular experiences and strategies to best tailor them into an optimal Medical candidate. My first lesson with your child will be a consultation where we can establish a strategic roadmap for the upcoming year, charting not only academic outcomes (so that they will know exactly what to expect in terms of progress) but seasonal extracurricular activities and opportunities which will be personalized to their strengths, interests, and past experiences. I have a wealth of unique experiences and an exclusive bank of opportunities (the very opportunities which elevated me to being nominated as a Finalist for the prestigious Australian Young Citizen of the Year award), and am confident I can help passionate students achieve similarly.
